The photos are amazing, and the trip on the ferry sounds incredible. We've wondered about paying that much money as to take a caravan and car, as well as 4 kids, and 2 adults it costs a fortune. Maybe we could look at it as a luxury cruise experience?

Thanks, Livin OTR,
There is no cheap way to get to Tassie, so for a little extra you may as well go in style. The cost to us for 2 adults, deluxe cabin, car and Van, was just over $1600. This can be off-set by the considerable options for free-camping, and reasonably priced fruit/vegies from markets and roadside stalls. Van parks were also cheaper than the mainland. Diesel was about the same price as mainland. Please note that not all deluxe cabins are the size of the one we fluked.
Cheers, Dalb

Great read Dalb
Makes me want to get back to Tassi and enjoy a pie or two as well, LOL.
The Montezuma track was a bit wet and boggy last year only got a little way into it and turned back bit to late in the day to be getting stuck.

Thanks Rob. It had not rained at Montezuma for about a week before we went, but it was still very slushy for the first Km or so, then it got much better. I too would not like to have started the journey late in the day, firstly because you could be all alone if something went wrong, but also because you would have to face the mob coming down, and there are very few places to pass, and backing up on such a track could be horrendous in places.

Thanks for a great description of your trip. As an expat Taswegian, it made me very homesick for the sites that you take for granted when you live there.
I lived on the west coast at Luina (between Waratah and Savage River) for 6 years. With my family, we worked a small gold prospect at Corrina on the weekends about 5 km towards savage River from the hotel. Your blog has inspired me to go back on our next holiday and spend some time there, this time taking in the scenery and not working for the yellow stuff. Thanks Dalb.

Thanks FE, glad you enjoyed it.
I write blogs to try and return something to members, because I learned so much from this site before I started my retirement travel.
I hope you enjoy your return to Tassie, and even though the locals say its not like it used to be, it is still a magic place that is so different to the mainland.
Cheers Dalb
