After a short drive from Tin Can Bay, we have arrived at Rainbow Beach
and a few days of relaxation. I haven't been here for thirty years and
find that it has been transformed from a sleepy fishing village to a
trendy coastal resort. The old hotel has been replaced by a beautiful
building reflective of the old fashionod two-story country pubs with
wide verandahs.

The caravan park is adjacent to the hotel, close to shops and cafes
and has beautiful ocean views. In contrast to the other parks we have
visited, with a large number of retirees escaping the southern winter
and others making the "big trip" this park is occupied by many
families enjoying the school holidays.

We took a quick drive around town after setting up the van and found
the propellor from the Cherry Venture in a park on the foreshore. The
Cherry Venture was a ship driven ashore on Teewah Beach by a storm in
1973. Despite many attempts at salvage it remained on the beach for
many years and was a popular tourist attraction. The rusted remains
were cut up and removed in 2007 due to concerns about injury.

Tomorrow we are leaving the van and heading over to Fraser Island,
staying overnight at Eurong Resort and are looking forward to
exploring the island. Jacob and Ella are especially excited at seeing
dingoes in the wild.

Our next Happy Hour is here at Rainbow Beach Caravan Park on Friday at
4pm. Come along and join the fun.Looking south from Rainbow Beach
