Hello everybody !

We are still in sunny Kalgoorlie finalising things before we head off up the Canning Stock Route in this morning. This means we will be out of range for three weeks and will be desperate for everyones news when we come out at Halls Creek, apart from the sat phone for Pat's tweeting & updates of course etc. I'm hopeful for range there- if not it will be another few days into Alice Springs.

We are having a great time for the most part - would be much better to just be on a holiday but we have an excellent crew that are making it as painless as possible so we're having a few laughs.

Pat and Pete (camera) went up in a chopper day before yesterday to get some aerial footage over Kalgoorlie and the mines. Thought it would be good to some shots of the Patrol flying up some red dirt roads from the air. Enter stunt driver Kazz....ohhh yeah. Hang on kids - Garth Brooks full blast..chopper out the side window - happy days ! We finished and headed back to the park for the night. While unpacking I noticed the back latch on the camper was open. In typical Karen style I had taken off with the back undone. My toiletries bag and its contents were now scattered all over dirt tracks out the back of Kalgoorlie....make up, deodorant, shampoo, mobile phone charger the works !!!!!!!!! I retraced my steps yesterday and got lots of it back over a run of about 20kms! So funny. Who knows what else flew out - guess we'll work it out as we go.

Pat, Jerry (producer) and Pete crashed the change rooms after the AFL semi final here on Sunday to film some of the local culture. The kids and I flew the flag for the bunnies and took to the field at half time with the locals to kick the ball around.

The nights have been cold but the days lovely. Everything over here is bigger - the sheep, the trucks, the seagulls, the servos. Had to pinch myself as I overtook a 3 trailer road train with the camper on the back and thought nothing of it. Manouvers like that would have stressed me no end a few weeks ago - not a problem now. The beaches around Esperance as expected were magnificent. We spent an afternoon driving up and down the beach getting sunset footage - just beautiful with super white sand and beautiful pink reflections on the water.

We're eating well thanks to Duncan (chef), the kids are eating salads and vegies and things that they would turn their nose up at for me....trying hard not to take it personally.

Wish me luck today ladies - I am going to the hairdressers in an hour. Makes me nervous when I booked in yesterday afternoon and managed to get in at 10 the next day. Oh well no one else but us for the next 3 weeks, oh thats right and a CAMERA! I joked before we left that we should be hiring a wife for Pat this trip and now that we are out here I wish we had.

Pat is well and steaming ahead in his usual way. As you can imagine he is dropping some ripper jokes - lots of material out here...

Bill had a spill off the play equipment that required a quick x ray of the leg but all good - only slowed him down for an hour. Charlotte and Angus fitting fit. Not even a single on camera tanty from Charlotte........yet !

The photo of the boys was taken at Victoria Rocks - somewhere between Esperance and Kalgoorlie. All the travellers we meet are super friendly so i am enjoying a chat here and there. I have to recommend we all get 3 to 4 machines in our laundries. We had a stack of washing the other day and it was done in a flash when you can fire up 4 machines at a time. Okay, I need to get into the bush when my most exciting news is about a caravan park laundry.

Cheers for now Kaz
