As of 24th Feb 2010 the ExplorOz Altitude Service is now utilising the ASTER GDEM dataset. The GDEM is produced with 30 metre postings, and is formatted in 1 x 1 degree tiles producing an accurate result every 30mx30m on the land surface.

So now altitude results are even more accurate than the last SRTM data which was 90mx90m. This will reflect in the altitude profiles and in every place within the system. Also now using the mapping system ExplorOz will give you a highly accurate altitude for any position on the Australian land mass.

For more information on the ASTER GDEM data see NASA JPL ASTER GDEM Announcement
