The Great
Nundle Dog Race at
Nundle Recreation Ground attracts more than 1,000 people and dogs for a day of novelty dog races, high jump, doggy
derby, and best dressed dog. The day culminates with the Great
Nundle Dog Race for working dogs from across the region.
The event started more than 20 years ago as a race between working dogs, owned by two local cockies, from the Peel River
Bridge to the Peel Inn. It is now an annual event that raises money for the
Nundle Public School Parents and Citizens Association and funds equipment, staff, and subsidises excursions for students.
As
well as the extensive program of dog events there is face painting, jumping castle, merchandise stall, hot dogs, steak sandwiches, tea, espresso coffee, cakes and a bar for a great family day out. The event is run by volunteer school staff, parents of students and community members.
