On November 1 1914, Australian and New Zealand troops departed in convoy from King George Sound,
Albany, initially bound for Europe.
Albany was the last Australian soil many soldiers from Australia and New Zealand saw.
The nation’s Centenary of Anzac, to be commemorated from 2014 to 2018, will be one of the most significant commemorations to take place in the lifetimes of most Australians.
As the birthplace of the Anzac story,
Albany will be the curtain raiser for Australia's commemorative event program of activities marking the Anzac Centenary.
A special "Anzac Albany" website has been created detailing our proud Anzac
heritage and the events planned around November 1 2014.
