Engel Combi Box
Submitted: Monday, Nov 01, 2004 at 09:41
Drew - Karratha
Has anyone any information on the Engel 60 Litre Combi Box?? I am interested in buying one but havent heard anything about them from people who own them...... I would rather not spend the $1600 until I hear about how wonderful or otherwise they are!
Thanks
Drew

No just a good friend, 20yrs ago might have been a different story. It might be just me but $1600 for an Engel is that a bit steep.

Should have asked for a buxom
young
lass with a 60 litre Engel Combo who's father owned a fish farm and a brewery.
Would have been perfect if she was four foot tall.

Hi Baz,
Sorry but I dont know of Sarah - I will keep an eye out for her and her assets.....
Drew
I know $1600 is a lot - I was looking at a
Waeco
for about $1100, but after speaking to a few people who sell both brands they tell me that they do get a few warranty claims on Waecos, but when they sell an Engel that is the last they see of it... I dont want to get stuck out bush for 2 weeks with warm beer again as I did last holidays with my Chescold.....

We have an 80L combi SS. Works quite well.

I have one - only criticism is that it is heavy - too heavy for me to lift in and out of the fourby when full - but of course that is a function of size. I leave it secured in the car. Got into trouble with SWMBO when I froze some tomatoes which were in the
fridge
section when running it on high during a long drive - figured I would save on battery when we stopped. Beer was great though.
I run mine from the camper battery. Installed heavy cable and Anderson plug going to connect the camper and had the auto lec install plug in vehicle using that wiring to avoid loss of power.
I think mine was a bit under $1500 at Olbis in
Brisbane
.
Why did I buy one? Because my old Engel is still going after 18 years and I needed a bigger unit with both
fridge
and freezer. Doesn't mean the current model is better than the old one but you feel comfortable buying on experience. I could have just bought another smaller unit and use the old one and it as
fridge
freezer combo but figured that needs too much space and power.

We have had one for a couple of months and on a 6 week trip, did not miss a beat. Actual capacity is less than 60 L due to the seperating wall. The boss thinks that it is fantastic (which makes me happy). Having a seperate freezer and
fridge
section is great and if you store veges away from the freezer, all is fine. I would certainly recommend the purchase. Also seemed to have more usable space than the 60 L
Waeco
.
Cheers

I am convinced that it is the right way to go - now I just have to see how much I can screw anyone who sells them down on price - or put it at the top of my Xmas list.......
