PC Install in Landcruiser

Howdy all,

I have been researching over the last few months all sorts of things, and am ready to take the plunge into an in-car PC.

I've started buying components and things (yay e-Bay), and I will hopefully have a working system in a few weeks time.

My question is - is anyone interested in what I am doing enough to want me to post pics and diagrams and things, or would you rather just see the finished product? It won't be anything too spectacular in the beginning, i'll just be happy to get it in and working. It'll be pretty upgradable though, so hopefully development will be continuous for a while.......(just don't tell my wife...)...lol

Anyway, let me know. I won't bother if noone is interested.

I would also be interested in why you are installing in in-Car PC and what you are going to use it for (eg.. Music, Video, GPS tracking, Reverse Camera etc.).

It'll start off life as a reversing camera, pure and simple. The cost of the PC was about $60, I already had a camera, and the 8" touch-panel was $180. A little bit more than your average reversing camera I know.... but it's a good base.

Future plans are GPS (with internet access) as soon as possible, music (mp3's, radio, dvd's), a little bit of war driving, and then see what happens from there.

Future bits and pieces may include hooking into the cars computer somehow, working from home/ car platform, mobile phone integration, and who knows what else.

And the geek factor is pretty high......lol

I've got my 8" screen with TV tuner and VGA input (ebay), 12v power supply for screen and laptop..even a mini wireless keyboard with trackball.

However I've found im using my 'spare' laptop soo much at home, as the wife has stolen mine, that it may be a while before it hits the car.

Plan was, TV, MP3s, games for wife..etc etc..and eventually GPS mapping.

Sorry, I don't know how to post photos here. I fitted a laptop into my 80 series today. I bought a cheap laptopholder from Supercheap for $10. With a couple of zip ties and Occy straps it locks onto the grab handle above the glovebox very well.

Chump - are you going to pull a PC apart and re-configure it so that you can permanently fit it into the vehicle somewhere?

That is what I am wanting - I have an old laptop that I am sure can be pulled apart and re-assembled in a smaller box and then permanently fitted into or under the dash somewhere.

If that is what our project is then I am verrry interested - after you have finished yours, do you want to practice on mine?
