Hi Everyone,
Need some pointers.
Heading around this country of ours within the next 12 months plans are in progress.
Our tug is a 80 series Landcruiser towing a Jayco Sterling Outback Tandem.
Renting house there is no time schedule for return.
This trip will be a work and travel starting from Deniliquin NSW (near Echuca Vic) at this stage leaving in May-June.
Question is: Which direction to head first? We are thinking north.
The best way to find jobs in advance or would it be advisable to ask when you arrive.
I am a qualified mechanic also with handyman and gardening experience age 53.
My wife has worked with a financial adviser firm, and is currently employed with an accounting firm age 39.

Any input would be of great value (as we are a bit confused) to allow us to continue our planning. We need to have it planed properly, (once in a life time if you know what I mean).

Long term project with our van was to eventually fit a shower/toilet in our 17ft poptop. Just wondering if anyone has ever attempted this successfully? The main problem in my eyes would be the water proofing aspect and the flexibility in the area of the poptop skirt. Any help or referrals will be greatly appreciated....

Hi,

We are VERY time poor at present, but would love to get away for even a night with 4wd and caravan from Perth metro area.

We don't mind free-camping (caravan totally self sufficient), and the more bush-camping style the better. Love a campfire!!

We already go to Dwellingup - which is great, but keen on alternatives.

Before we put the van away in storage to put us out of our misery looking at it in the driveway - can anyone suggest anywhere close to Perth that they would recommend for a night or two away??

All suggestions much appreciated.

A senior ranger is not sure how a freshwater crocodile has ended up in an outback river system at Birdsville in Queensland's far south-west.

The ranger-in-charge of the Simpson Desert National Park, Don Rowlands, says local residents spotted the one-and-a-half metre long reptile in the Diamantina River at the town this morning.

Maybe they could hold crocodile races.

I have a 2004 3 ltr patrol diesel wagon ,190000klms and is getting very smokey but not really black, at morning starts.
Am a bit worried that this year i may be a nusiance in caravan parks.
Gave it a bottle of injector clean recently but that made no difference.
Is this normal or is there a fix for it.

Hi travellers

Yesterday we stayed at the Mungo National Park between Broken Hill and Mildura. It rained overnight, and we had some fun trying to get out on 60kms and slippery mud road. All the dirt roads between BH, Mildura, Menindee and Wentworth have been closed, and could be closed for several days.

Since the weather seemed to be coming from the NW and we were planning to head towards Alice on the back tracks, I was wondering if anyone can report on road conditions between Broken Hill, Wilpena Pound, Maree, Coober Pedy, etc?

If the rain has been through there, we'll have to stay on the bitumen.

Any advice gratefully received.

Off this week end for some fun and serious training with Great Divide Tours 4WD and trailer training at Braidwood, any one done this yet? Won't take Mountain Bikes as per my last thread, should be some good wet weather and slipery tracks!
