Hi All,

Thankyou to those who previously gave me advise and assistance in my future GPS setup.

My startup hardware setup to test the water with gps will be

- laptop (2nd hand)
- gps mouse (new)

I understand that OziExplorer is the best mapping software to use.

What other software would be recommended for city use and 4wd-ing

Thanks

D,
for city use Discover Aus gives pretty good detail, but none of the bells and whistles like 'voice', turn by turn etc.
The whole of Oz on a CD costs $245Bob

OziExplorer is definitely the best raster map-reader; more features, cheaper and better support.

Many are raving about Discover Aus. It's OK as long as you have a Magellan GPS and are happy to stick with only one set of maps.

Brianm,

Which issue of Western 4WDriver are you referring to? I do recall such an article, but it was quite a while ago and I can't find the issue.

It sounds like you and I have a similar nav set up. However, my comment was making a simple comparison of the the applications OziExplorer V's Discover Australia. Both being map readers, but Discover Aus has some serious functional limitations compared to Ozi. A fact that was reinforced by members of West Coast 4x4, at their OziExplorer workshop, last weekend.
