Hello!!! My name is MArco,i write from Italy.
First of all, sorry for my English.
I have a problem with my Patrol GR(3.0 diesel).
Few days ago I was at 120km/h in 5th gear and it has been broken off.
I have 128.000 km.It is normal?
I have read that this is a problem of PAtrol GU.
My Patrol was made in 2001.
Now the guarantee is ended.
what I can make? this problem already has happened in Australia?
thank you very much.

G'day Marco,
Sorry to be the one to tell you, but this has been a problem on the GU Patrol's here in Oz also. I have a 2000 model 4.2Turbo Diesel and luckily for me the Nissan dealer actually brought the problem to my attention when I had a service done. They checked the gearbox oil and found it to be coffee coloured, which is the sign they look for.
I only had 80,000klm on mine at the time and they did it under warranty/guarantee.
I have heard from other owners here that if you complain to Nissan LOUDLY, they will still cover you even though the vehicle is outside the 3 year/100,000klm period. They have known about the problem for a long time, but did not do a full recall.
I would suggest you talk to your Nissan dealer or Italian company head and let them know that other countries (or at least here in Oz) are fixing the problem.
Good luck mate.....
Cheers,
Roachie

Marco,
Contact Nissan even if it is out of warranty.

The problem batch is from 2000 to late 2001.

There was a manufacturing fault in the 5th gear spline which causes it to strip.

The fix is a new 5th gear and a new main shaft.

Early units 1997 to 1999 and 2002 to 2003 are OK.
