hello all, wife and I,with small dog going to Alice Springs in a few weeks. Usually stay at Heritage park outside the gap. Always busy. believe there is another new park outside of town, that will allow dogs. Has anyone been there, or know of it. any feedback would be welcome

Hi Bill

Temple Bar which is nine kilometres down Ilparpa Road allow pets, and I think Wanngardi which is adjacent also do. Nothing fancy, but so nice to stay out of town.

MH suggested Temple Bar a couple of years back (thanks for that) when we went. Not quite as formal and up to date (maybe?) as some of the others but a lovely informal setting without the regimentation of some others. There was another less than a KM further on, also looked nice. Out of town, nice and peaceful and you can take your doggy and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Amenities not quite up to top standard but ok.

Temple Bar was certainly antiquated - but so was the price :)

We grew to love the place and kept coming back.

HeaviTree Gap Outback Lodge and Caravan Park is close to town allows dogs $20 deposit for dog. You get the money back when you leave if you clean up after your dog and it has not caused any problems. IGA store, Pub and bottleshop as part of complex. Has evening meals at cheap prices when you want a night off form cooking.

Heritage and Temple Bar were the only ones taking dogs when we were there so good news that there are more options. Wanngardi re-opened after our visits to Alice Springs.

The Heavitree Tavern has a great special of all you can eat four meats roast dinner and all the trimmings on Sunday Nights. We paid $10 per head in 2009. Sweets and drinks extra. Entertainment included.

I live in Alice and wouldnt hesitate to stay at Heavitree Gap, we stayed there in 2000 and often go down there to see the rock wallabies in the evening. Locals might get a weensy rowdy outside but they dont come in, its safe....

The one down Ilparpa, never gone in but ride my bike past it, its pretty basic but I'm sure its fine as many places are up here....

Sunday night at Heavitree is good, always entertainment, Rex the snake catcher is good, sometimes its live music...always full on Sunday nights :-)
