Sure is interesting - wonder what that will do to warranty and quality? In a few years, will one know where the tyre is manufactured?

Landrover was not a failing company - was in fact one of the most profitable in the Ford line up but along with Jag did not fit in with Ford's corporate profile and competed with its Explorer range of 4wds - Tata made an offer too good to pass up.

The workshop manager where I bought my camper trailer told me that he saw Cooper tires rolling off a production line when he was in China last year. He seems like a straight up type of guy to me, so I believe him.

The Indians are the only ones who seem to be improving the reliability of Land rovers, the next mammoth challenge is to do the same with Coopers.

Maybe the the Cooper warranty will change from

"Unconditional lifetime warranty on off road tires, unless you buy them outside a metropolitan area, use them on dirt roads, and on the condition that you maintain the pressure to within 1/1000th of our recommended PSI every second of every day, and have them inspected every 5000km at a Cooper dealer and at a total cost of 2 - 3 times the replacement cost of the tires. De laminating and chipping excluded." to something that actually means something.

I have seen a doco on the block that runs tata . very impressive operator indeed.it also included interviews with execs from ford and rang rover ford could not give rang rover away it was such a basket case.when he took control he left the running of the company to rang rover and let them make their own decisions without interfering and they seem to have succeeded .I don't believe every doco but this did have interviews with all current execs and all had praise for the way the buyout was done and that rang rover could well have been finished if tata did not intervened

The spelling for the tread bit that goes on the outside of a wheel is Tire. A Tyre is a specific type of Tire - a Tyre is a pneumatic Tire. So technically a solid rubber tread bit on a wheel is a Tire not a Tyre.

Americans have chosen to call all types of Tires, Tires and the rest of the world that speaks English has forgotten what a Tyre is and now calls all Tires, Tyres.

Yes lots of different versions but was originally Tire in "English" english and comes from the French language. Tyre did not come into the "English" english language until the mid to late 19th century.

While there are certainly Americanisms in American English (until Webster came along to simplfy American English) many words are "English" English that existed around the time of the American War of Independence and they have stayed the same while over the pond many words continued to evolve and Tyre is one of these words.

Stu & Bob,
guess it is just the changing of the guard. The fall of the Roman empire.

We are doing the same and turning this country into a big quarry for the world. In fact much of the quarry is owned by overseas interests. That is ok, but the material is being dug out, railed to ports then sent straight offshore for processing.

Axle,
Ok! I will continue. There are no employers and no unions, there is just greed from all angles.

I have pulled large tracts of this land and I was just discussed with what we pulled. LAND THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN CLEARED.

WE have turned mighty river systems into sewers and then blamed each state for doing it. If someone try's to improve those systems people get all defensive and claim it will be the ruination of their patch. Well we have already ruined it. All your hear is greenies are dipsticks and are anti everything. THAT is because the ruiners are all pro DOLLARS, with no concern at all about the outcome of their money making venture.

Mate, a nerve has been hit and I just get wild at the crap that goes on about how our great country is going backwards. Most of it is ruinous political point scoring from both sides of politics and the media.

Then again I am just a simple redneck. I will now go back to my bogan rum and coke or am I drinking shiraz tonight, $5 bottle of course.

My theory in relation to Cooper Tires are just that 'tire'd, I have a set of AT3's on my Ranger and won't be buying anymore, already getting prices on Mickey Thompson ATZ's

I previously had a set of ST on a Maverick and had a good run, even looked after with a warranty claim, but they are not that user friendly any more me thinks.

I think the poster above was right when they said that the quality might now improve

You do appreciate that Micky Ts and Coopers are the same company and basically the same tyres - just with different treads - may even been made in the same factories.

My apologies, according to Wikipedia (as reliable as it can be) says that Cooper Tires bought MT in 2003

Also on that site was this:

"On June 12, 2013 a deal was finalized in which Apollo Tyres of India will buy Cooper for $2.5 Billion. This move will make Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. the only major US tire manufacturer. Previously Cooper had been the second largest U.S.-based tire company, after Goodyear."
