As you say - some great photos here. And yes, it would be nice to see them full screen.... but bigger image means bigger file size, hence slower downloads, and of course more of our host's disk space to house them.

Is everyone aware that clicking on these images will take them up to full available size? (That's the uploaded size with a limit of 800 x 800 pixels.) In fact you can click through all (almost!) of the images in the whole thread at their maximum size, just by clicking one then clicking on its right or left hand side to move forward or backwards through the whole list. (The one exception appears to be yours Ron, which is hosted elsewhere. Thank you for posting the link - it is certainly a spectacular creation!)

John - Yes, I'm fully aware of the ability to click on the forum-hosted images to enlarge them - and I'm also very aware of forum limitations for picture-hosting.

As a result of other forums problems with showing pictures, I decided long ago that hosting pictures on forums is a dead loss.
There are dozens of photo-hosting sites out there, and a lot are free - and you can post large format files on most.

However, perhaps a number of people have chosen the small format to prevent internet theft of top-class photos, which is an on-going problem.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who think that because a photo is posted on the internet, they're entitled to steal it, and re-use it as they choose.
I had a barney with a bloke on another forum who pinched some of my best photos, then started reposting them all over the place - without any credits, or request to use them.
He now reckons I'm the greatest ar*ehole that ever lived, because I chided him - yet copyright is copyright, and the law backs me to the hilt.

I now put restrictions on simple right clicking and copying to reduce theft of my best photos - but that can be worked around by those in the know, so it's not a complete fix. I just wish people would respect others intellectual property rights as regards photos on the internet.

It is very difficult to monitor and control photos on the internet, at times I will watermark, but that gives little protection.

In the end I don’t worry too much about it.

But just the other day I was contacted by a West Australian company who market personal safety and adventure kits and they asked could they use my “Cobb & Co” photo from an upcoming promotional brochure. They had come across it on the net after it was picked up from my website.

Being a relatively easy going sort of bloke I suggested that as we were the adventurous type that they could in exchange for a kit…

They posted it that day…

So there are some good guys out there who respect the property rights of others!

Landy, I picked up a copy of the West Australian just a couple of days ago when I was waiting for lunch in a cafe (haven't bought a newspaper for years), and they had a half-page ad warning people to ensure that they have permission to re-use or re-post ANY articles, photos, and other copyrighted items, that are the property of the West Australian Newspapers group - and the subtle message was, they have Rottweiler lawyers on standby to pursue anyone using or reposting their material without permission.

A lot of organisations (and individuals) are getting deadly serious about others using their copyrighted material without permission.
The West Australian included this website in their printed warning ad ..

A lot of people are unaware how you can make quite good money from top-class photos. Calendars are a classic example, but many organisations, such as you mentioned, are happy to pay for good photos.

I read an item once, where Gary Larsen, the animal cartoonist who specialises in the cow cartoons, withdrew all his cartoons from the Internet because of the losses he was incurring due to unauthorised reposting of his cartoons - and he actively sought out any site that reposted his cartoons - and in many cases, either had them shut down, or extracted sizeable fees from the website, if they did repost his cartoons without his permission.
