Hi Everyone

This may have done the rounds here, but it has not it will make you think what was the outcome. I have always been told that if you have to snatch a vehicle, make sure you always go straight ahead.

If anyone has seen more and knows what the final outcome was, it would be interesting to see what happened to both vehicles.

A snatch recovery that goes pear shape very quick

If I do not get to speak to all my great friends on here before Christmas, have a great Festive Season and all the very best for 2014.

Cheers

Hi Stephen. I have watched the last couple of series of that show and found it mostly enjoyable so like you, wait in anticipation for either the whole episode, or that it is in the next series. All the best to you and family over the festive season as well and many thanks for all your informative reports and great photos over the year. Cheers, Bob.

Ho Bob

Thanks for your very kind words. Seeing that there were only 2 vehicles, and they were hours from help, I would love to know, just like you how they managed to get themselves out of that very big mess.

Cheers

I thought they also have a 3rd camera/support vehicle. In other shows they often make mention of the cameraman and sometimes the other vehicle.

Hi Stephen & the best of the season to you also. I suspect that now that Simon's vehicle is rolled they will be able now to use the winch as the car's lack of breaks will no longer be an issue. Once Jason's vehicle is extracted they will then winch Simon's back on it's wheels.

I'll be watching with interest.

Question do you like the new commercial format or the old community TV format? I've yet to make up my mind but the hour long episodes are better.

Cheers

Hi Dunc
Thanks for that. The trouble with the winching is that both vehicles are both pointing the wring way to where their winches are located.

As for the series, I have never seen them, but they do look interesting and I wonder if they do those same crazy things on a regular basis?

Cheers

In a perfect world you can always snatch straight ahead but in the real world you quite often do recoveries at all kinds of odd angles. Would be good to know the outcome I'm sure they travel with 1 or 2 camera cars which would have helped.

Hi Batts

You are correct about that but with soft sand like that and the speed that he was going, you do not have to be a genius to see the vehicle bite in the way that it did and roll.

I find the strangest thing that he checked the back of the vehicle first without seeing if the drive was OK.

It would be very interesting to see how they did get themselves out.

Suspect a set up...?
According to the tracks, they may have made more than one attempt to get bogged.
Could be at Lorella Springs?

Peter

I'm confident it was 100% scripted and staged, just like all the "reality TV shows" or for that matter pretty much anything on TV.

The one thing we know about reality tv is that it is never real. Your suspicions are probably correct.

Your right Peter it is at Lorella Springs, I was their that day and the first time they crossed the camera was not working so they went to do another shot and that happened. I was not on purpose and they where very lucky there was another truck their to help them out or Jason's truck would have drowned and the other would still be on it's side, as they were some 50klm from the homestead.
This was a new track being pushed in to a river system that the 4 wheel drive Action crew tried to get to last year and did 33 tyres before giving up.
I am pleased to say we had made a good track their now but would not suggest trying to cross the creek. It has some very nice camping spots along the river out to the Gulf.
PS Simon took quite a while cleaning the back up when we camp up that night.

How is Rhett these days Andy?
Haven't seen him since the accident.
We had a couple of weeks at Lorella Springs waiting for the road to open north in 2007.
We did the paving outside the bar (see 'our mark' in the corner) and made the jerry can stools while we waited.

We later camped at his and Fe's place at Palmerston and met his Mum there.

Cheers,
Peter

Rhett is doing well and has recovered from the accident.
You jerry cans are still holding people up (great idea) just need a new paint job.
I like your mark OKA196, when I first saw it I thought it was for the phone line but now it makes sense.
Things have changed quite a lot since you were here last, as I have being extending the camp ground every year in the wet for the last 3 years.
Can you tell me where you got the slate from to do the paving as I want to make the fire pit larger but can't find slate as smooth and flat as that.(send in message)
Hope to see you back here one day.

Looks like a pair of gung-ho rank amateurs to me, who plan nothing, and run at everything like a bull at a gate. Why would you drive straight out onto tidal flats with an incoming tide not far off - and why would you drive out on tidal flats without getting out and checking the ground? That's a guaranteed way of seeing your vehicle go under the waves.

Why would you snatch and jerk on a sharp angle, when your vehicle is already overloaded to the max, and top-heavy as buggery? If he didn't roll in this episode, you'd only have to wait 5 more minutes.
I wonder if he even understands what a savage sideways jerk does to chassis' and towbars?? He'll be whining in the next video about his rig crabbing down the road.

These blokes are just showing every viewer why a large % of four-wheel-drivers are regarded as just idiots with too much money, and no appreciation of the value of expensive vehicles and equipment. If they were working for me, they wouldn't last 5 mins with their lack of equipment care.

YouTube is full of 4WD idiots. Get a look at the clown ramming the car on the beach repeatedly.

I'd say that at a certain point, panic overtook stupidity as the dominant influence on decision making.

By your comment I take it you've made that judgement by watching the many shows this bloke has produced over a few years and not just based it on the 2min:35 second clip above.

Hi Ron

I bet that if it was their own personal vehicles, it would have never happened.

It is strange that company and hire vehicles can alway do a lot more things than our own pride and joys.

Nup. I can spot stupidity in seconds. Mind you, I've done plenty of stupid things myself, which gives me some authority in these matters.

Fair enough Bob. I guess I should be admitting to being to having been a bit of an idiot in my younger days. Now days I'm just a silly old far%! I'm trying to think of what the most stupid thing I've ever done was. What worries me is that its probably yet to come!

Jackass style video made for TV. I certainly will not be recommending such silly antics to anyone. The teaser has been extensively discussed on several 4WD oriented forums.

Hi Iza

When so remote and a long way from help, it was not the wisest thing to try.

Did you ever hear how they got themselves out.

Yes, like you I watched quite a few of the other videos that were there.

The one that you mentioned there was an interesting watch out along the Hay River Track.
