4WD site i know but - Deep Water NP fishing Q

Submitted: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 at 00:00

paul

Sorry to put a fishing question up here but here goes:

Am going to visit Deep Water NP for a camping fishing 4WD trip soon and want to know can you get bait off the beach - like pipis and worms, as i understand it is the last stretch of coastal surf going north but the beach from photos does not look like a real surf beach.

All bait, fishing, camping and driving style tips for this area would be greatly appreciated.

Paul,
There is an article in 'Go Camping' Mag issue 32 about Deep Water NP. Article mainly a tourist story, only mention about fish is 'you can' but does have a few details about getting there, including this snippet for 4WD access only:

Take dirt road south out of Agnes Water, onto southbound 4WD track. A few k's on you'll reach the park, Wreck Rock camping ground is 7 kms on. It is self-reg with basic facilities: 15 campsites, cold shower, bore water, composting toilets.

Hope this is some help, and hope you land some big'ns!

Paul, Just returned from Deepwater, finding bait on the beach would be akin to finding a needle in a hay stack. The beach is VERY steep and consists of a very coarse sand. I didn'nt see any where that you could see as a worm bank and no trace of a pippy either. Agnes has bait available and if you come in from the south you can get it fron Wartsville, about twenty minutes away. We caught a couple of feeds of dart and a fella picked up a mackeral while we were there. Good luck!
