There are two ways to get to Arkaroola from Copley. You can use hi 4wd on both. Most of the time on the track through Yankaninna you will have to take it easy but I doubt if you will need low range. But it depends on what it is like now. It's been a few years since we went through there. However on the way through Nepabunna I would be very surprised if you have to go to low range.

I find that your question tells me, and I may ve wrong, that you have minimal 4WD experience. Please do a 4WD course, before you go anywhere remote, especially on your own.

We've travelled several times from Copley to Arkaroola through Nepabunna and never used 4WD at all. Basically it is a gravel road. We towed an off road caravan and a camper trailer. Never had a problem.

While you don't need 4wd, sometimes it is good to do so - several wise old heads have told me in the past that they think it reduces the chances of rollovers on these outback loose gravel roads. Wind-up won't be a problem on gravel.

And don't drive too fast! I knew one guy who wrote off two Landcruisers on his first 2 trips to the Flinders - rolled them both. Know another people who drove too fast on the first trips and destroyed 2 or 3 tyres. Reducing your pressures to about 30 psi helps as well.
