Fuel Price in Outback NSW

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what sort of inflated diesel price you can expect to pay when travelling to Innamincka, via Bourke, Wanaaring and Cameron's Corner.

Will probably take two fuel cans (40 Litres) with me.

Cheers Rob

Inflated is probably a bit harsh, it's more likely to be inflated in the city!
Costs a lot to transport fuel to remote areas.

Hi Shaker,

I did not mean any disrespect to the country servo's, i am only assuming the price will be dearer as you stated due the transport cost involved to the more remote places.

Rob,

Budget for $3.00/Litre that way you won't be shocked by paying more than Capital city prices.

I am 400km West of Brisbane and the Diesel price has been $1.63/Litre for over 12 months yet the City prices change daily, at least Regional/remote prices are steady

Travelling to these remote areas.... you must expect to pay more... sure there may be a few extra cents per litre you have to pay..... but if you dont, that fuel outlet WONT be there next time you go out that way!!!!

That extra 40 litres your going to carry are you going to carry it from the east coast (or where ever) from a woolies or coles outlet.... how much is it going to cost you to carry it there!!!!!

Just enjoy your trip.... the cost of fuel is part of the experiance & ISNT the EXPERIANCE what it is all about?
Insanity doesnt run in my family.... it gallops!

Hi Tony,

I think everyone feels i am complaining about the fuel price.....I am not ha ha. it was just a general question for my own good when we travel.

I do not and will not use Coles or Woolies servo's, i use the local BP at Leppington, NSW which is not affiliated with any food companies.

I believe that and extra 40 litres (45kg with containers) will not reduce my fuel economy by much and I will still have to fill up (including containers) somewhere in the outback to return home.

Appreciate your honesty and passion.

Cheers Rob

Nice to see somebody else that won't use Coles & Woolworths fuel outlets & isn't being suckered by fuel vouchers!

Shaker,

I refuse to shop there so my wife and I travel to the nearest IGA and local produce market in a town called Luddenham, some of this is locally grown.

The two big players have too much freedom and state/federal governments do not have enough control over them. I don't go there on principle.

umm you do know iga is south african multinational controlled through metcash??
masters of making people think there buying more local than coles and woolies and long time lobbyists behind trying to stop extended trading in WA until barnet sorted them out

IGA is a series of franchised owners, each store is owned by the operator not by some big corporate identity hiding behind Coles or the other one.
IGA is structured more like the Golden Arches where each store or group of stores is independently owned and needs to comply with the ethics of Metcash, not controlled and managed by Westfarmers or whoever currently owns the other one..

Head office for IGA is actually on Bribie Island QLD , each store is independently owned and operated but are expected to follow state and nation wide specials and slowly are expected to have a similar floor / shelf layout where practical , was the first of the supermarkets to actively promote extra shelf space for SPC during SPC's crisis at the expense of IGA's own branded products…...

Hey Rob
Not sure for those areas, but we've just completed 9200 k round trip to the Rock n back. Diesel averaged $1.85/ litre
Highest $2.33.0 at Kings Canyon Resort
Lowest $1.59.9 at Toowoomba
Might help for your expenses

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the informative reply, that does help with budgeting.

I won't be doing the km's you have just done (maybe next trip) but probably about 2 fill ups while we are away.

Cheers Rob

Sounds to me like you're probably not going to have a good time anyway if that's what you're worried about.

Yes, budget for $3 per litre and focus on the experience. And if you travel efficient ly then you'll save additional funds.

Lighten up - he's just asking a sensible question to prepare for his trip. Not everyone has the funds not to have to worry about, or plan for, these things.

Hi John and Regina,

Sounds like you and some others have misunderstood my question. I am not worried about the cost, this just a general question to some fellow travellers who have been out that way recently.

Understand your passion for having a good time but really no need for you to worry about me to focus on the experience as i have been doing this for over 35 years.

Cheers Rob

Robb,
if people take the time to read and absorb what people ask before jumping on the keyboard they would easily see that you were asking was a simple question for "trip planning" don't take what some people write to hart mate as they sometimes have nothing better to do, there's nothing wrong with planning and trying to foresee any obstacles that may lay ahead of you, I agree with above mentioned advice and carry my containers empty until I may be going into a remotish area then I fill up at the busiest truck stop I can find as there is no way on Earth the fuel will be stale and a big burly trucker wont stand for it either LOL!
OH and it sounds to ME that your going to have an absolute ball as well mate :P

You don't say what sort of vehicle - fuel range you have now , carting a jerry or two can sometimes be a total waste of space /weight to save a few cents per lt , on one 23,000klm 6mth trip started with 2x full jerries from Brisbane and were still full on return - never touched or used ……. just a waste of space and weight that could have been better utilised…...

I thought the same, until I got to Cameron Corner & found that they were out of diesel & didn't expect their delivery for 2 days.

Yes ,that can happen , thing to do though is to fill up / top up at every opportunity whenever down to half tank , can remember on the Tanami , topped up at Tilmouth then at Rabbit flat [420ks] ,,,, did I need to ? No .. could have reached Halls creek with plenty of spare , laugh was Halls Creek no fuel outlet open until next day …….

Rabbit flat price at the time $2.51 lt Diesel

Halls Creek $1.85 lt Diesel……...

Hi Alloy,

I have a 2004 Patrol 3.0 Ltr lnter-cooled Turbo with main tank 80Ltr's + sub 30Ltr's. To and from work (Oran Park to Wetherill Park) i get between 1200-1255 km. Towing my POD Off-road Trailer fuel economy reduces back to around 800-850 km.
I do not believe 45-50kg of fuel will make any noticeable difference to economy........but i am open to any views.

Cheers Rob

Very few places [ a Simpson crossing] do you need more fuel range than 800-850 klm ,each to their own , carrying a little bit of spare is one thing , carrying an extra nearly 50% is another..
