We are leaving Toowoomba on Thursday am to do the above trip in my Patrol 4.2tdi ute towing my Jayco outback Destiny. I would like to hear from anybody who has recently traveled this way or part thereof. We are experienced dirt roaders having towed the van down the Tanami, GCR and several others but we are getting older and no longer want to be doing it too rough.
Any advice will be appreciaed.
Thanks, Geoff

We plan to go via Cordillo Downs, Diamantina Development Rd, and Bedourie. We've been to Birdsville several times so we want to go a differnt way if possible.

Geoff,

Bedourie to Boulia should be all bitumen now. They were doing up a section near Marion Downs station a couple of years ago, so would expect it to be finished now??

The road to Bedourie can be a bit stony in parts, so it's a case of drive to conditions. Recall there's bitumen along past Cluny Station, then from there up to Bedourie. I've been along the road from Betoota, up past Mt Leonard and Mooraberree, and it's a good drive. Hits the Diamantina Development Road near the turnoff to Davenport Downs/Diamantina Lakes.
