Sorry for this being so long winded but may help some one
Just a bit of knowledge I thought that I would pass on as I learnt the hard way.I have and self installed an Eberspacher D2 Airtronic Diesel Heater .
Unit ran perfectly for about two months ,then started to shut down and go through the correct cooling procedure but this happened after running for only around (ten minutes).I could manually restart no problems but the unit would not restart by itself once temperature dropped .Also received no problem code on LCD Unit.
After rechecking all connections .emptying and replacing fuel.checking ducting for collapsed sections .I decided to
check my air intake (Fresh air from inside van ,not combustion air from outside )
Now when I installed the unit I made up a fine filter from stainless steal fly wire and placed it inside the inside van fresh air vent to stop any small objects going into the heater .This had got clogged with some dust and as such was restricting the air flow which was the reason for the heater to over heat and shut down.Remover the mesh filter and fired up heater going again no problems .Hope this helps some one as it took me a week to find problem

If the mesh blocked up with dust isn't that dust now going into the heater maybe a worse problem, maybe some type of easy clean filter available somewhere

I recently had my heater serviced due to the same symptoms. I had replaced the original foam wrapper around filter with a lawn mower filter, thinking I was doing the right thing. The repairer told me to bring the air intake out to the side of the van and run it open when using the heater and put a cork in when not using/travelling. Apparently the heaters are rather sensitive to the air flow which can case the heater to run rich and carbon up internally and over heat, which
mine did. The install instructions don't say anything about filters, but they do state not to have the air intake longer than 2 mtrs, which would be to ensure an adequate air flow.

I found out a year or so ago with my Webasto that it won't work also when wasps make their nests up the air intake!! I guess the outcome is that the air intake needs to be kept clean and protected when in storage.

Hi Phil. There are two air intakes on these heaters. One is for combustion and is outside,(where insects can nest) usually under the heater unit,(I have a muffler on
mine)the other is the heating unit intake which is usually inside and on the end of the unit itself. I tried a filter on
mine and had the same problem as the op. so have run it open for a couple of years since without any problems. Cheers, Bob

I had always been careful of the heater external air intake for heater combustion , but guess being the type thinking that the stainless steel fly wire mesh would be a good back up to stop objects going or being sucked into the air intake inside the van never thought of the mesh also catching and holding fine particles and in turn start to choke the heater off. Any way now removed and give the heater a good run all day today and it never missed a beat . But hope fully some one else will learn from my mistake
