Travellers located an abandoned 80 series 'cruiser near well 42 on Sunday. Troops from Balgo went out and located the vehicle. It had a reserve tank of fuel and a flat tyre but wouldn't start. Keys in ignition and some hand written notes lying around. The car belongs to a Queenslander who has been reported missing since around November last year. He has issues. The car appears to have been there for at least a month. Of course there is no real way of determining how long although he left video and audio recordings done on 5th December. One of the notes stated he realises he was not prepared and another states he was going to walk west along the sand dunes. Heavy rain over Christmas and new years has allowed the spinifex to grow to almost 2 metres making walking almost impossible. Any sign will have disappeared ages ago. One of the police troopies carked it about 300km from Bililuna. Never ceases to amaze where people will travel on a whim.

Poor bugger. Not the best place to find yourself if you're not prepared, would've been a tad hot in December.

There is no news of this available via official avenues. However after searching missing persons Queensland it would seem to be a gentleman named Jodie Hall missing since the 28th of November 2013 whilst doing the Fitzroy Crossing WA. I have located official reports, see link at the bottom. Missing Man

The body of the missing man has been found.

'The troops found him, what's left of him, about 1.5km west of his car out in the sand dunes. Not much left after 4 months.'

'The stock route doesn't see too many vehicles during summer - too much rain and too much heat. Even the yocals avoid it during this period. Tourist season only just starting to ramp up. The guy had issues (family) and was basically running away from everyone although he did have a father in Albany. His car failed and nobody was coming to look for him. No comms, no PLB. He left messages for his kids including video and phone voice recordings, very sad. He came across the top and was in Halls Creek in November. Looks like he saw the Canning as a short cut to the south as he was a little short on money. A couple of ex's to pay off and some kids.'

Sad to hear Gaynor, even when someone has issues.

Issues are a part of life. If you don't have issues ... you are dead.

Can someone please tell me where this information first came from as I am one of those family members and the fact that it appeared here, and with the information it contains, 2 days before we were informed has caused undue stress to the family and friends of this man. Please be considerate of others in future.

Hello Tanya

I am very sorry to hear of your loss.

Having walked the Canning alone, and being someone who lives with depression, I do have a tiny idea of what he may have experienced out there.

The desert is harsh .... but it is also beautiful, and in a way, for me it is home, a place to return to.

According to the report, it was his intention to walk west along the tops of the dunes. This is not a decision by someone who has decided to live, but one who has accepted his fate and has chosen to die ... eyes filled with beauty and a heart at peace ..... and final acceptance. The desert has that effect.

Why do I believe that?

I have walked twice into the desert to die, but in my case, I found the will to live again each time, the tiny flickering of light within burning brighter with each visit.

I would like to believe that Jodie found peace in his last moments. That is not a bad thing. But it is hard on those he left behind. It always is.

It was my intention to send this as a private message, but there does not seem to be a facility for that with us both as non members.

Wishing you peace and acceptance.
Gaynor

P.S.

The information came off another forum called PradoPoint. I see that the thread has since been made unavailable.

My contact details are gaynor@canningwalker.com

Tanya

My condolences to you, your family and friends. A horrible way to hear about the loss of a loved one.

But don't forget that we all accept it without censorship and this is a prime example where it can burn you. Just like Twitter and Facebook. It is the nature of the beast.

And may I also say, the Canning.

Thank you for you time.

Thank you for that Gaynor and PJR. He also thought of the desert as hell or home and can only hope he found his peace before he left us as his problems were not as big as his mind must have been thinking at the time. The post on the other site may have been removed as I also got on to them. There was a lot of information on there that had not been released to the family yet and although it did give us more it wasn't a nice way of finding out. It will be at least another month before formal identification is given so until then we are grieving with no final outcome yet.
