Walkers Crossing

Route for driving between Birdsville and Innamincka through the flood plain country of the nothern overlow of the Cooper Creek before rising onto the Sturt Stony Desert on the Birdsville Track.

This is a great way to travel between Birdsville and Innamincka, very spectacular countryside, especially in the first stages amongst the dunes if coming from Birdsville.
We covered this route about one week ago (Late July 2014)
Conditions are generally good to average, and whilst subjective, no better or worse than you should expect on outback roads and tracks. There were areas of corrugations and bull-dust about 20-kilometres from Innamincka. And no surprise as it would see a reasonable volume of traffic from people visiting King’s Marker and the Wills site.
If intending to camp along the river within the reserve ensure you collect firewood well before getting to this point.

Thanks for the info'. I am going that way on Monday from Innamincka. I have been the other way twice and got lost once. Missed a sign and ended up at Gidgealpa. I suspect I am not the only one to do that.

It is looking good out there Robert and I'm sure you will enjoy it...

Whilst there are plenty of oil and gas tracks I found it wasn't to bad navigating through them as they are fairly well marked. I also took the approach that if the road looked to good it probably wasn't the one I was meant to be on!

Hi Baz
We came through from innaminka to birdsville with the van in August 2013 and loved it. Gave the Patrol a good workout over 6 t.
Tried to put a picture on but no luck maybe the iPhone
