iphone 4S non-suction phone holder

Mine is the cheap and nasty install, but it works oh so well. I had a TomTom cradle, but the sucker on that died and it was pain in the arse to attach in a suitable location anyway.

It worked so well that I also used it on my bike! I've done a few 1000km on that and haven't lost the phone, even when I did throw it down the road, so it is reasonable secure ;-)

I bought a hard clip on cover for the phone. $5
I bought a 12V charging lead to plug into the ciggie lighter. $8
I had some self-adhesive Velcro strips and dots.

To install, find where you want it and clean the surface with metho. Allow to dry and then stick on some Velcro strip, I prefer the hook side. Being black it blends into the dash and isn't that noticeable.
On the back of the hard cover I stuck the loop side of the Velcro. Being kinder to the hands and not catching on clothing and the like, this way around works better.

Then to use the phone in the car, simply plug it into the charging lead and stick it onto the Velcro. Slight misalignment is no issue as it sticks anyway you put it. When I sold the old car I simply pealed the Velcro off and the dash was immaculate underneath.

It worked so well that I simply repeated the process with the new wheels. Bluetooth connectivity helps too as on the old vehicle I had to plug in a jack to run it through the stereo.

If you position it at the right height then running a Sat-Nav app makes it easier to view.

I don't have a pic of the car, but this is the idea anyway.

I have tried various holders and have settled on the Bury cradle. It mounts rigidly on the dash. I use an old iPhone 4 in a Bury cradle as a navigation display, music source etc and an iPhone 5 in a Bury cradle as phone, personal hotspot etc. The advantage of the Bury system is the external antenna connector. I use a ClicOn mount & cradle from HoldMyPhone

Just select the mount you desire for your vehicle and a holder for the model of phone you have.

ClicOn have mounts with a suction cup (which you don't want) or one that attaches to the dashboard without screws. It fits into the joins between panels and/or the edge of the panel. Kind of hard to describe, but I have had mine on for 3 years now, holding a 10.1 Galaxy Tablet and now my iPhone. (I can swap holders to suit both)
Recently completed a 10,500 kilometre run to the Kimberley and back to Adelaide, including the Gibb River Road and Cape Leveque Road and the holder didn't budge.

By the way, suction cups (at least good quality ones) should also work well.
On the same trip, my Hema Navigator and TomTom were attached to the windscreen via their suction cup holders and also didn't budge in the 6 weeks of the trip.
Maybe I just have good quality spit:-)
