Had a Globalsat BU-353 and changed to a Qstarz BT-Q818XT....... big improvement especially when stationary, the GPS pointer kept moving around on the screen for direction on OE and the Qstarz is rock solid. Faster pickup time and even works very well in some buildings.

Hi

I dont think Google maps (PC version) has "turn by turn" navigation/GPS compatibility (i.e. it doesn't read incoming GPS data to see where you are/going). There is no PC windows version of Navigon that I can see.

Look for Windows 8.1 "apps"

e.g. G Map

Cant see specs/instructions on GPS compatibility but worth a crack I suppose.

There are also some PC based "turn by turn" navigation programs e.g. TwoNav. Not sure of others ..maybe TrackRanger. For navigating around cities I just use my Smartphone and Google Map app (for android/iOS) - free (apart from data download but on plan so already paid for).

If you just want moving map (no "turn by turn" instructions) consider OziExplorer, Memory Map, TwoNav.

Cheers
Greg

Windows 8.1 apparently accesses the GPS differently to older windows. Make sure you have the right driver or program to change a serial device to a GPS instance used by Win 8.1
