I'm sure I'm not the first to whinge about this, but every time I tow the caravan on unsealed roads/tracks, fine dust (usually red) sticks to the silicone (or other substance?) based sealants used as waterproofing over every external joint, around the doors and windows on the caravan. While much of it can be removed with a high pressure washer blast, some of it stubbornly resists removal. It is unsightly, and requires a scrubbing brush, appropriate detergent mix and considerable 'elbow grease' at the end of each journey to remove, or at least reduce, the effect.

I have tried various commonly available sealants as an 'overcoat' on the original seals in an effort to prevent this occurring, but without significant success.

Are members aware of any tried and true product, or a paint that will stick to silicone, that they have used effectively to prevent this chore?

Maybe it's just an unavoidable fact of life travelling with a caravan around Oz...

I believe your last statement is spot on, our van has seen that many dirt roads that I would be pushing up daisies long ago if I had even tied to get rid of the dust marks...let the rain do the job.

I just clean mine with CT18 truck wash and that works ok. I also don't use a water blaster .

I use a bucket of hot water with a dash of dish washing liquid and apply a little elbow grease to a soft bristle broom.
Takes most of it off and what's left is a "badge of honor" to say we actually use the bloody thing.
I manage to ignore the rest and have another beer. Life's too short. (;=))

Cheers

+1 for CT18. Used elbow grease before, then tried CT18, easy

Jif cream cleanser and a small brush is good....flushes off easily...but I'll only be doing a complete job on mine at sale time.
