If was me, I would put the original tyres under the house or some where out of the light to harden up. Buy the set of mun terrain, and enjoy your trip. Any new tyre has less chance of getting a punture than ones that are worn.

MT tyres handle the wet road better than most tyres and will give grip on the gravel. The noise factor would be the least of my concern.

When I go to sell the Defender, put the original tyres back on.

This is what I would do.

I also have a defender extreme and i have purchased a second set of wheels , just the old steel ones as on the county and fitted them with tyres. They are much easier to change in the bush than the originals. You will need to purchase a second hand set of wheel nuts, the ones off a county of series three landrover will fit. Much better than the alloys.

Miker I had a spare set of 4 rims off my .97 defender that i kept when i traded it they were new on that vehicle. I did buy a spare for $40.00 and the wheel nuts cost me $2.00 each. I have found this much better when in the bush as they are much easier to change/repair than the alloys. The first trip with the extreme I did a tyre on the plenty and had great difficulty changing the tyre at the garage at boulia so I thought what hope have i in the bush. Change to the alloys when I get home. Best thing I ever did.
