Drove down this about 2 weeks ago. Track was very good * except the last 20-30 odd k's into the Balcanoona turn off - some gnarly humps and creek beds - nothing to be worried about unless you hit them at speed

* usual caveat - conditions subject to change - ask again closer to your travel time....

PS. 1st time my group has seen a 40 series airborne ........

2 ways you can go, via Lyndhurst, well 3 actually if you take a little detour.

Down the blacktop to Copley then east again to Arkaroola . . . option, do the back loop drive from just before Angapeena station, north to Umberatana and into Arkaroola from the west . . . depends on time you level of adventureousness :D
Take an extra day to do that, lots to see on the way, or do that one day out of Ark if staying there a while.

Other more direct route, and the road is quite good . . . turn south off the Strz at Mt Hopeless (abandoned) Station, south via Moolawatana to Balcanoona, then the usual road to Arkaroola.
Quite a nice drive.

Michael f,
Just did the trip ,Copley to Innaminka via Balcannoona ,and the roads were in good condition ,except Mt Hopless to Innaminka , terrible ,very little traffic ,but as others have said it gets hot in that region ,spoke to a truckie 80 klms south of Moomba and he said the pot holes were the worst he has seen ,he was weaving all over the road to try and avoid them .

Sorry Michael, forget your asking about weather . . . see this page Climate stats Arkaroola

Looking like averages of low 30's for Nov / Dec.
It's a dry heat, and if not used to it it does feel different to same temps in other climates.

Just a heads-up: the first few hundred metres of the Balcanoona track are slow to drain / dry after rain. Can be boggy.

Mount Hopeless to Balcanoona is a good route.

In 2009 we came down the Strz on November 9th. The shade temperature was at least 50C and it was blowing a gale. A break down would not have been a nice experience.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Michael,

it will be warm but as others have said it is a dry heat which is a bit easier. We use Leigh Creek forecast as our guide for weather forecast but, as we have a bit of elevation, it is a few degrees cooler than Leigh Creek. In fact last summer over Christmas / NY we were cooler than Adelaide during that hot spell.

The pool will get plenty of use though!

Regards,
Vicki
