Hi all
Is there anywhere along the Savannah Way between Borroloola and Kingfisher Camp that has showers and toilets? Alternatively I suppose - How long does it take to drive this section without hurrying?
cheers

Yes , Hells Gate Roadhouse has those facilities and more, very friendly people, we did not stopover there but the place is very clean and tidy looking for such an isolated place. We were there last year. We took two days to drive it (the section you mention) , had an over night stop at Calvert River left hand side heading east and spent 5 days at Kingfisher camp, did a few walks and had some r & r ..had to fill in time before we got to Lawn Hill. There are 14 gates to open and shut between Kingfisher camp and Lawn Hill (if you are going that way) ,my wife does not drive so.....she had to do the gates.

Seven Emu has good camping, but not that far out of Borroloola.

Agree Hells Gates is very clean and tidy, and also heard excellent reports about Seven Emus. Heaps of good spots to free camp along the way - just forget the shower and make good with the shovel and matches.

how long does it take Borroloola to Kingfisher?...well obviously depends how fast you drive and if or what you are towing (yes i see you mention not hurrying). A few years back we left Kingfisher Camp around 6.30 a.m, we were towing a Kimberley Kamper and going fairly quickly (we actually arrived at Lorella Springs about 2 hours quicker then most people do the trip according to Rhett that owns Lorella to give an idea of the speed we travelled at...though always under the limit). From memory we arrived at Borroloola for lunch around 1.00 - 2.00 p.m. The only stops we did along the way to there, were at Hellsgate so a mate could grab some fuel and we grabbed a few ice creams and sovenirs also, then we had a pretty quick morning tea break on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere (20 minutes max we were stopped) and that was it. We sat on 90 - 100kph to do it in the time we did, and the corrugations were very ordinary in some places along the way. We were pretty late in the dry season on our trip, i wouldn't have wanted to tow a caravan along that route when it was corrugated like that, though obviously conditions change when they run a grader across it.
So i'm assuming you are asking if you can do it in a day?....it would be a pretty long day if you aren't hurrying as you mention above, but certainly doable if you leave early and aren't towing something like a caravan (i doubt you'd do it in a day towing a caravan, but i could be wrong).

Thanks everyone
Don't want to do it in a day that's for sure - towing a TVan - two days will be fine for me. Looks like there's a couple of good options.
cheers
