G'day peoples,

Been quiet a while since I have been on the forum, I know there are a lot of Oziexplorer guru's on here so thought here would be the place to ask the question.

I am unable to download my tracks/waypoints from my Explorist 510 to Ozi, i have it configured as per instructions on Ozi, this is as follows;

Configuration/GPS

GPS Make: Magellan
GPS Model: Magellan USB
GPS Upload/Download Datum: WGS84
According to Ozi help no changes were required to be made in the COMM tab.

I have the gps set up with the same datums in both primary and secondary and have gone into the settings/connectivity and changed to Connect to PC.

When i go to the Magellan Tab at the top of Ozi, and either get Waypoints or Tracks from gps it opens the subfolder and i can see the Magellan, when i open the tracks or waypoints folder it isn't showing anything, if i go into the gps through my computer (It is showing up as an external drive) i can get into both the tracks and waypoints folder and see the contents, i have also tried copying the contents over into the Ozi Date folder but it still shows empty when i open it.

I have set up a friends Garmin GPS60 and didn't have any problems downloading from that, this however has me stumped.

If anyone had any ideas it would be appreciated.

Regards

Josh

Hello Josh

As you seem to be aware most of the modern day GPS units act as external memory device when connect to a PC so some of the settings you refer to in OziExplorer are actually no longer needed/relevant if all you are doing is transferring waypoints and tracks. Secondly both Magellan and Garmin (and others) now save all data as GPX files (waypoints and tracks) ..or at least provide the option.

I would therefore suggest you simply create a working folder on your PC for your GPS data (maybe a different folder for each trip/area etc). Then just copy/cut data you want from the GPS to this folder using windows i.e. dont bother trying to find it on the GPS via OziExplorer. As indicated files (waypoint and track) should be *.gpx format.

Then within OziExplorer use LOAD -> IMPORT GPX FILE

Find the folder with your data and select file of interest.

View, edit etc then to save any edits use SAVE -> EXPORT TO GPX FILE.

Save the file with a new name if you want/overwrite etc same as any other file save in Windows.

Then copy to the relevant file onto the GPS using Windows explorer.

You can of course just do above and open/close GPX files directly from GPS when connected as an external memory device but I think it is better to have data on PC, open/edit etc then copy back to GPS.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers
Greg
