Well you could have blown me over with a feather. One of our cars has been serviced and maintained by the Phillip ACT Nissan dealer. So you say!Well on the way home from Sydney we broke down and had to be towed from Marulan to Canberra $525!!!

We just picked the car up and despite having to remove and replace all six spark plugs including coil packs, remove and test/flush the radiator, do two oils flushes and replace the tappet cover oil seals it only cost $212. Maybe some tappet shimming also.

Something was not done correctly at the last service. So they stuck by their word and despite that being almost 100 K ago they did the bulk of the work for free. We only had to pay for the radiator flush and coolant.

We will definitely be taking the Nissan to them again.

You only do services 100,000 kms apart?? A typo, surely?
All mechanics and repair shops should guarantee their workmanship for 30 days.
Replacement parts should perform satisfactorily or be replaced for free within 12 mths.
Did they happen to state what was "not done correctly" at the last service?
This sounds like poor supervision, I trust the supervisor has been hauled over the coals.
It's good to hear that this dealership is actually prepared to wear the cost of their mistakes.

That should have read something along the lines of "something was not done correctly at the last major service when the spark plugs were replaced". I missed the last bit.

It was a major service that they got terribly wrong and to the credit of Nissan manufacturing it stayed together for all that time. When you think about it, that;s not bad for badly installed and leaking spark plug/s. Not sure how many. One coil pack "leg" was destroyed completely and bits ended up in the tappet cover.

Nice to hear a positive dealership story as they usually only cop a bagging

You got that right Alby.

The main mechanic, not just the supervisor, (I feel he needs a better title than manager or supervisor) actually came to our house when we got it home and had a look at the car and a good chat over a cuppa. He was dead keen to "fix it properly". I had a feeling that he was specifically employed to "up their performance".Well he had a good one to work on.

They had it for a few weeks and just slowly and methodically worked each issue. He reminded me of Doug Chivas of the old original Holden Dealer team who worked on our cars back in the 60's and 70's. A professional unrushed and detailed approach.

Sounds to me that like someone replaced the sparkplugs but forgot to tighten them.
So, half way to somewhere they unwind, come out with a bang and cause a bit of destruction along the way.

I have seen it happen on SIL's Feroza 4wd, holes through the bonnet!

How long did you say it took to get it fixed?, you mention "a few weeks".
I reckon you should be reimbursed for the full amount including the tow.

I've heard of cross-threaded spark plugs, but not to worry, if you just keep doing 'em up til they stop they don't come out.

Oh, and wheel nuts. I hate rattle guns. I told my tyre place to hand tighten the wheel nuts.

All 24 were finger tight.

I guess they did what I asked.
