Reverse Camera Monitors

I am interested in what reverse camera option you are using and how you have mounted it or ideas I could use.
My research suggests the mirror camera is too small, the clip on mirror option which I have has broken retaining lugs which broke on a rough road. The lugs seem to have gone brittle. I could use the hema Hn navigator as a monitor but it takes time to power up when you first start the vehicle.
I have some photos of my GU Patrol ute showing the clip on camera now held with Velcro and the overhead console.
Thanks Peter

Are you referring to the camera or the mirror mounted monitor.

I had one of them and it was useless They are after all a mirror and the picture was not bright enough to overcome the reflection in the mirror.

I binned it and bought a Polaris unit and mounted the monitor over the rh aircon vent on the dash.
Was much better.

I do have an 8in screen I dont use that I had mounted on a Ram Mount in front of gear lever. Was pretty good and could run maps on it off my lappy.

A far better idea.

I read my post again, sorry I am referring to the monitor. The picture is poor. I went to buy a new camera seems mine uses Pal. My monitor does not have a provision to switch between NTSC and Pal.
I don't suppose you would know if the polaris unit could act as a monitor for the hema 6 navigator ?
Sounds like you are happy with your Polaris unit

Most monitors dont care whether its Pal or .Just poke out the picture regardless. My present Dashcam works on both and plays equally well using .

I no longer have the vehicle but was happy with what I had.

Actually had 2 cameras from rear of Cruiser and rear of van.

Made a switchable power feed so I could have them going when travelling and switch between the two on the monitor which had dual feeds into it.
If I remember correctly the car one was Pal and the van one from Honkers was probably NTSC.

The Hema is a much bigger screen than the Polaris I had it was only about 4 in.

The 8 in one was good but I dont know if the Hema has an output to an extra screen

Hi kwk56pt I am looking at mirror monitors both 7 inch and 9 inch that a company called elinz sell. I believe that when the monitor is off you get full rear vision right across the screen. At present I am checking that out. The
monitor replaces the rear vision mount to one of its own. The other question is would the mirror mount be strong enough when travelling over rough roads. The firm is quite reputable and I have made other purchases in the past. Cheer, Brian

I have the mirror mounted screen and find it ok for rough roads, the Gunbarrel and ABH and the Plenty this year, and the GCR last year. Not real clear with the sun behind but I think that,s the camera position more than the screen.

I have the Polaris screen but its still in the box, I think its tooo big for on the dash

Peter,

Take a look a the range of mirror monitors available from Brash Imports.
The easiest solution for you is to replace just the mirror monitor.
David also has a multitude of other options available.

Brash Imports, based out of Melbourne, are IMO a reputable company to deal with.

Thanks for the replies. As I have a ute with a trade body on the back and a rear window curtain to stop the reflection I find my picture acceptable while I can see why others don't find the picture that good.
I had a look on that brashes site. The monitors are made by Sharp and they have clip on types and others that replace the existing mirror. So I think a Sharp Monitor with a replacement mount rather than a clip on might be the best way to go for the price at least.

I think it might be th quality of the clips or the age that determines how they will fare on corrugated roads. Anyway I appreciate the replies

I bit the bullet and had installed an ARB system. It replaces the mirror completely. Can take two inputs and you can turn it on via a mirror switch when you're touring for a check on your trailer. Also has a mike/speaker which adds to the info you get (eg. if you run over the cat, keep driving and head interstate!).

Exxy but worth it.
