Camper Trailer transport from QLD to Perth

Dustin, it will cost you a heap to move the camper that distance. Essentially, it's a VERY long way!
The problem is that campers are bulky cargo and you pay for the cubic area occupied, not the weight.

Trucking crowds work on 333kg to the cubic metre. If your item weighs less than 333kg per cu m, you pay on cubic rate.
So calculate the camper dimensions and get the cubic metre figure and multiply by 333 and that is the equivalent tonnage rate you will pay.

So if the camper is say, 2M wide x 1.4M high x 3.6M long, you have 10.08 cubic metres and the equivalent of 3356 kgs in weight measure.
So you pay the tonnage rate x 3.356. Tonnage rate from Bris-Perth would be around $500 a tonne, so that would work out to $1678.

I got quotes on car transport recently from Melb-Perth and I found the following car transport companies prompt to reply - but there was a wide variation in quotes.

However, not all car transporters will take trailers. Some of them will refer you to others that will.

The best method is to find someone roadtraining general freight from Bris-Perth, who will "top-load" your camper. In this case, they forklift the camper onto a frame that suspends the camper above other heavyweight freight.
This frame gives them additional carrying capacity and it is a method often used to transport bulky items such as cars and trailers.

I have also used Watsons Express Transport quite often for loads from Sydney and Melbourne, and they are efficient and prompt at phone quoting if you have all the load details to hand.
Sometimes, the likes of Watsons can swing a deal where some other truckie takes the camper Bris-Adelaide, and Watsons take it Adelaide-Perth.
Depot-to-depot price will also be a better price than door-to-door.

An alternative is to post a request on camper trailer forums. Some folks are willing to do this kind of thing.

I have contact with a Geelong company that does this sort of work, and took a couple of items for us recently (I know he transported a rally car from Canberra a couple of weeks ago).
The company is BDR haulage and the guy's name is Brad. You'll find BDR Haulage on Facebook, or his number is 0424 449 631.
He has a flat tray for larger loads like a van or trailer, but also uses a Landcruiser ute for smaller jobs or towing etc.
Worth a call, though I agree with others it's a big and expensive trek from Brisbane to Perth.

With fuel being quite cheap at the moment, wondered about driving over and picking up the camper yourself?

But doing the maths doesn't make it very cost effective, even with cheap fuel.

8,800 kms return, Perth - Brissy - Perth, at say, 14L/100, @ $1.30/litre average = $1600, then some tucker, maybe accommodation, so round it off at 2 grand.

Then there's loss of income for 10-14 days, maybe a tyre or four...........yeah, transport is looking good.

Ah well, it was just a thought, Dustin. :-)

In July 2009 we had a single axle van transported from Caloundra in Queensland to our door in Perth. The transporter was OPSL, who specialise in transport for caravans, boats etc.

The cost back then was $2640. No idea what the present cost would be.

No problems with the transport.

Wonder how the shekels work out if you take it on the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Perth. You still have to drive it of course.

I did the numbers for a car, CT and two of us on the Ghan, Darwin to Perth so backhaul rates, and it was still exxy.

Here's a thought from left field.
Why not take your holidays at the time, farm out the kids, if any, to the grandparents and drive to Qld. Pick up the camper and drive home, stopping here and there, as you might on a road trip holiday.

When you look at it as part of a holiday, writing the costs off as holiday costs rather than a pick up and deliver trip, it might seem a good alternative.

It just depends on how you look at it.

may be worth calling Freightrite or Land transport in Brisbane or even a company called Corden transport as well
they all freight gear to me in Perth with a good record as far as damage goes ( None in 8 years )
prices will vary but maybe worth the call
