Odog, that price isn't just reasonable, that would rate as the cheapest around. The best price I got late last year, was $1600 for Melb-
Perth for a Subaru Forester. Some of the other crowds wanted $2300-2400.
Rates should be easing off now with cheaper fuel. However, shipping anything West across the Long Paddock means you pay all the way. Shipping stuff East, it's dirt cheap in comparison, half the trucks are going back empty.
Back about 1994, we trucked the 'Cruiser from
Perth to
Adelaide for $300 backload cost (it was $900 back then for
Adelaide-
Perth) - caught the big silver bird to
Adelaide, picked the 'Cruiser up, drove right through to
Cairns, and stayed in
Cairns for a week.
Then we trucked the 'Cruiser on another backload to
Adelaide for another $300 - caught the big silver bird back to
Adelaide, picked up the 'Cruiser and drove back to
Perth!
The backload cost each way was less than the fuel cost for the 'Cruiser back then, so it worked out a treat, and saved us a lot of additional driving.
Even as it was, we still did 9000kms in a month with the 'Cruiser!
Cheers, Ron.
