UHF radio for a 200 series Land Cruiser

Hello there, We have just bought a 2014 200 series and would like to install a uhf radio. Does anyone recommend a brand and where to install it, somewhere out of the way. Phillby

I got the Icom 440 with the remote controller microphone. I have the body fixed under the driver’s seat and the controller microphone hangs off the ashtray. (I removed the front of the ash tray and fitted a bracket to it.) Kevin

yep, I done the same, unit under the seat and handset on the dash. Yes I am biased to Icom as I've used the product for 40 years and never had a problem that couldn't be fixed easily. I used to belong to a radio club, hence I started with icom. They are not the cheapest around, but you get what you pay for. They are also a little bit more complex to operate than some of the other manufacturers, so to me it is individual preference. Some of the others are also good units but it comes done to cost and preference

Same as Simon C behind the dash and I just drape the microphone over the wiper stalk. If you want your passenger to use it easily you will need to do something else. Its a good idea when installing a UHF that the aerial lead is a couple metres longer than required with the surplus cable tied under the dash somewhere. At a later date it maybe be necessary to cut the aeiral cable to remove the bullbar, grille etc, and rather than have to put a joiner in (they always give trouble) you just pull through some of the excess from under the dash. Easy peezy.
What other people think of me is none of my business.

Gday Philby I brought a gme with the remote hand pice and mounted the unit under the passenger seat. I removed the passenger side kick panel attached to the dash and bent a pice off alloy up to fit the hand pice to and refit the kick panel. If you go on to lcool there is some threads on mounting them in behind the center of the dash.

If you get a remote head unit like the Icom 440 or something like the GME TX3540 it will fit behind the dash under the radio in a GX, GXL and VX, you can also mount it at the rear of the console by removing the rear panel in the paer passengers seat area. This also works for a Sahara.

There are other options too. Join Lcool for details anf tons more info on your 200.

Thanks everybody for your help. Looks like it'll end up in the console at this stage.
