Vast satellite for caravan

If I order a vast satellite kit. How easy are they to set up? looking for portable with tripod bag sat finder and anything else required to get good tv coverage.
I know not to get anything under. 80 cm and I need a kit that has everything we need to get it going quickly.
I have been looking at accessantenna and satplus. Any recommendations and advice appreciated
Do I need inverter by the way. I saw this mentioned on another forum.

If you have a digital sat finder they are quite easy to set up. A smart phone app such as Wikicamps makes it easier and enables you to see if there are trees etc in the way.

Check to see if the decoder you choose is 12v or 240v, for 12v ones you will not need an inverter.

Bought mine from SatPlus. Very helpful and prices competitive. Beware of some of the "Kits" they are a rip-off.

Another vote for Satplus.
Purchased mine from them in 2012 and it was easy to set up and to register. Just recently Sunday had a problem with the sat finder supplied, rang them on monday and problem solved over the phone.
I would reccomend them to all.
And yes I am just a satisfied Customer.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Buy one from Satplus that has the triangular base - not the tripod stand. The former are very easy to use with only one adjustment (simple knurled knob) for elevation. My experience is the tripod models are a pain usually with four butterfly nuts to adjust elevation - and the blow over easily. I use the WDH bars as weights to hold down the triangular base on mine.

Finally get a good aftermarket sat finder. The cheap ones supplied will pick up any satellite.

To give a balanced personal view I am the opposite to John, get a tripod stand. I found the triangular one a pain.

I agree about the sat finder. As I said before get a programmable digital one.

Sorry john - have to agree with Rod. Tried both and would not go near a triangular one ever again.

Third against the triangular...they are a pain in the a***...need perfectly flat ground otherwise you chase your tail because all vertical and horizontal angles change with each subtle shift

Having had the above triangleIa gave it away and went for the tripod...best move

I have a tripod type stand and have no trouble setting it up.
At a camp a few years ago and was approached by a fellow camper, who asked if I was getting reception on my disk. He had a triangle base stand. I offered to help him set it up, well what a pain to set up as others have said.

I could not recommend a triangle base set up.

Satplus are a good company to deal with.

Hi Linda,

I got mine from Satplus. It came in a bag with cable sat finder (Digital) and is easy to set up. Normal time from getting dish out of bag to signal is about 2 minutes.

I marked the slide so when setting up again you have a reference point. An compass can give you the rough direction then use sat finder to tune in.

Satplus has good service and backup if you have trouble.

Cheers Andy

I bought mine from Access Antennas, I knew nothing about what I needed or how to set it all up.
They were happy to answer all the various questions I had and also demonstrated how to set it all up.

Once you have set it all up, you will be very surprised at just how easy it is.

I had a test run at home.
I followed Access Antenna's advise and after it was set up I checked and recorded the vertical angle of the dish to LNB. Mine turned out to be -2 degrees less than the recommended angle.
When I go to any site I take off 2 degrees from the actual angle and set the dish accordingly then I connect the sat finder (marriage saver!) and after a rough horizontal angle via a compass I tune the unit via the digital tuner. I have got it down to two minutes.
It takes longer to unpack than to set up!
I cannot see the value with the automatic systems.

Ring the boys and girls at Access Antennas in Osborne Park on 08 94464433 and they will put you in the picture and I am told they will freight anywhere in Australia.
I have been using one of their dishes for about 6 years and haven't had any trouble.
When digital came out we purchased an Altec de-coder box and had it converted to 12 volt with no worries.
I also have a tripod and am currently watching with that set up.
I also have a pole on the front of my caravan. I have another jockey wheel clamp welded on to the A frame and use this mostly. This time was a problem using the pole as there was a branch in the way.
I don't seem to have a problem and use my dish most of the time as there is no pixilation.
We are currently on a property about 50km's from the centre of Sydney and the terrestrial signal was a bit scratchy so I put up the dish and Bobs your uncle.

Don't hesitate to ask more if you need to.

Hi Guys
Full disclosure, I work for Access running the Bunbury store (Satellite TV Shop), thank you for your votes of confidence, its appreciated :).
In answer to the OP, A triangular base dish is awkward, they are hard to set-up and level to most new users, and you need to be able to level it!
The dishes supplied by Access and Ourselves in Bunbury are very very easy to set-up and a pleasure to work with.
As the others have said go for the programmed satellite finder, (Satlink RV), it makes setting a dish up 300% easier.
And also remember its quality and use not price that should determine your set, without the correct gear you can have alot of heartache and issues, not to mention arguments!
Get it right the first time.
Cheers

Sorry Linda nearly missed it, if you want to run 12 volt and your TV is 12 volt, get the Satking, and the optional 12 volt cable, no requirements for the inverter then :)
