Fuel Economy questions

Ryan

Hi, i was hoping some poeple would be able to help me out with some questions about Fuel Economy. I am looking at
buying my first 4x4 and have looked at some FJ40 and BJ40's, an FJ40 with a 308 engine in it and
an FJ45. Would anybody be able to tell me what sort of fuel economy i could expect from these cars.

This website i looked at - http://www.off-road.com/tlc/faq/ says that i could expect to use 18.6L per 100K
in an FJ40! I didnt expect that much , perhaps a BJ40 might be a better option..

Thanks

Ryan

What ever you decide, if it is not a standard vehicle, talk to your insurance company. Some heavily modified vehicles can not be insured, and after you buy it is not the time to find out! Cheers!

Petrol 4WD's tend to be very thirsty. For example my 3.0 litre petrol GQ Patrol uses upto 50% more than an old 3.3 litre diesel in a MQ Patrol. The upside is that the petrol motor has more pickup, but I'm considering an engine swap to diesel once mine gets a bit long in the tooth (it's only done 250,000 so far).

Hi Ryan, A BJ 40 especially a late model with a 5 speed gearbox should do around 11 or 12 lt per 100km FJ 40 nearly twice that, AVOID the 308 conversion ! Even if done properly it will become a vehicle that you will live to hate ! Regards Ken.
