Meet an interesting group of people on the weekend. It was down at Braidwood and we were on a Four Wheel Driver Training Course.
First there was Willem & Kathleen, being Dutch he spells his name the same as Willem, and we all know Willem.
Next there was four young blokes, the oldest about 22 years old, from Armidale area. We don't usually get young blokes doing driver training because at there age they already know everything about driving and don't need any help or advice about anything. Talking to the young blokes on Saturday night they learnt that things were no different from when I was there age. I still think that all the electronic stuff that is around to-day that the young don't know how to live life to the max. We had a real good chat and I think they did learn a bit more than just driving.
Last but not least Simon & Tina. They stood out because they had two ExplorOz stickers on the back of there ute. Had a good chat about the Forum and some of the characters that are on the site. Hope you had a safe trip home.

Geez...what a popular name.....but even if we were twins he could hardly be my brother? And no...I aint Dutch with no Dutch ancestors unless you want to go back as far as the year 1308 ,just in case anyone was curious. I am a pure dinki-di Aussie imported from the other side of the Indian Ocean. Come over with the trade winds and been here a long while.

Cheers

When we did the course at Braidwood I was also surprised at the number of younger people doing it. I suppose we should not judge all youth by our own youth!!!!!
I have told my daughter and son in law before they can take the 4WD away they have to do the course.
Do you remember the South African "kids" with the Pajaro IO. They had a great attitude towards the training. I especially liked the way you hooked up their IO to snatch rope pull the Patrol (I think it was or was it a Landcruiser) out of the river over a 450mm bank. I think the kids were chuffed with its performance.
All the best.

Richard & Leonie,
We always try and use the most mixed matched vehicles in the snatch demo. Last weekend we used a Diesel Jeep Cherokee, and the Hilux was the one that was stuck. Kathleen was real proud when I asked her to drive the Jeep to pull the Hilux out.
Another couple just starting there 12 month trip around Australia, did the course as the start of there trip.
The South Aferican Kids have been back with us. Last year they crossed the Simpson Desert in the IO. It was a bit low but we got it through.

Hi Wayne,

It was nice meeting you on the weekend, we had a great time and learned a lot. The best thing about it was the confidence that SWMBO gained from tackling some of the more challenging obstacles. Instead of getting out of the car and walking the gnarly sections like she used to I think she will want to drive them now. Could be some arguments on the horizon as to who drives.

Seeing all of the different types of cars and how they handled was interesting, especially the Jeep which handled everything easily, regardless of the good natured ribbing they copped.

How did the Ford Raider get on? Did they fix those overheating issues?

SWMBO was even talking about joining you on one of the short tours so we may see you again soon.

Simon.
