New IsatPhone - Pro Firmware Upgrade

Good Evening Everyone

For those out there that are using the IsatPhone - Pro Satellite Phone, there is a new firmware update available to download and install. As with previous upgrade, it is simple and does not take that long to install.

Once installed, your settings should show that you have successfully installed version 5.8.0 in your settings menu. Here is the link that will take you to the official site where you can download the update.

New Firmware 5.8.0 Update

Thanks Stephen you're a scholar and a gentleman and there's not many of us left.

Typically my carrier and supplier hasn't informed me of any upgrades.

Cheers

Hi Dunc

It seems that many service providers are not doing the right thing to their clients and I feel that they should.

As usual, it was deady easy, and gives you peace of mind knowing that you have the latest firmware.

Cheers

Doesn't surprise me. Casual users are a small market and increasingly we shop around for air time. I'm on the 3rd reseller.

Hi Peter,

Last research I did was about 2 months ago and I went with Kevin from Sat Phone Sales - he posts here. He was the cheapest Oz reseller offering half-decent expiry time.

And yes you need a new SIM with number, at no cost. Doesn't bother me as I can't remember the numbers anyway.

Thanks Sigmund,
Last update I did via a credit card 5 weeks before I ran out of time and the 3 months started from the date I used the credit card, so is the voucher the way to go.

ie pay for the voucher and waite until you travel then fire up the phone the day B4.

Thanks again

Peter

Just off the phone from our Isatphone providor. We have pre paid and let it run out of credit when not needed. I was told last year that I would need a new sim when firing up again this year. That's fine we didn't mind that so we let it "die".

Just told that I don't need a new sim. The current one can be brought back to life when we are ready. Just buy a bunch of time (voucher etc) and they fire it up or whatever.

I agree, its a number and sim change if you go to another lower cost provider/reseller.

They do it remotely.

We were joking about how to download a new sim to my computer so that I can print it and stick it in the phone.

About changing providors; We have been with Bigpond/Telstra for ever. Recently we and several neighbours started having slow traffic and large dropouts. When I asked about getting their bill/email and how to get to netbank when we didn't have smartphones etc they hesitated, put me on hold and then offered a free mobile dongle and access until it's fixed. About six weeks so far. I didn't say no. Free!!

We use the phone line as much as we can and switch on the dongle if it drops out. Just like it did now.

Thanks Peter

Hi David

According to their website, the firmware update is not critical, but my thoughts are that if it is available, you may as well keep your phone up to date.

It is very easy to install and if you have never done a firmware update, have a look at this informative little video.

How to install your Firmware Up Date

If you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers

If you're not confident check with your provider. Some do it for a fairly modest fee.

It can't be done with a Mac, and some Windows systems choke on the drivers that have to be installed.

Hi

According to their webpage the importance of the update (i.e. is it "critical" or not) is dependent on current firmware version…..

“For users that who have not yet upgraded to version 5.3.0 or higher, this upgrade to 5.8.0 is considered to be ‘mandatory’ to avoid the phone becoming non-operational.”

So if you have ”not yet upgraded to version 5.3.0” it is “critical” (="mandatory") that you do (in my opinion).

If your phone is upgraded to version 5.3.0 or higher already then maybe not "critical", but as suggested by Stephen, may as well update anyway.

Cheers
