Jol Feming of Direct 4WD

g'day folks,

almost 2 months ago i lodged my application for a permit for the Hay River Track with Direct 4WD. I understand that processing it takes time. that is not the issue. but i do not manage to get any response from Jol Fleming.
Sent him the application by e-mail asking for confirmation if all would be in order - no reply.
Sent it by snail mail too asking again for confirmation - no reply.
Tried to call him some days ago - got only to speak to his answering machine - asking again for feedback - no reply.
sent him text message onto his mobile - no reply.
next step would be to walk up to his door and knock - but being on the other side of the planet this is kind of impossible ;-)

does anyone know if he is ok and how one can get in touch with him?

any hints are most welcome - cheers - lukas

Lucas, many of us have had similar problems. Jol is a great bloke but different to many people in his style. As has been said there may be problems with Batton Hill after the passing of Lindsay Bookie (another wonderful person taken too soon) or Jol may be away in the scrub somewhere with limited communication. Whatever the reason he has an assistant who attends to the administrative chores & oft times she will contact you albeit quite close to the departure date.
I am sure we have ExplorOz members in Alice Springs who may be able to visit the office for you & advise you of the situation.
Great drive through wonderful country, well worth the effort.

Cheers

Our experience and communication is very positive..albeit just before Lindsay died..applications lodged & paid for and emailed in a week. Not sure why you are experiencing such trouble.
When you do get there..the scenery, colours and travel is great..south north travel direction is highly recommended. all the dunes on the QAA line approaching from the east are easy as with the TVan...The dunes at the sothern end of the Hay are also a bit easier coming from the southern/ bottom end of the Hay track

I am sure Jol would get back to you if he is currently about.
Try the following as they may be able to contact him or know his whereabouts.

Lukas

I just got off the phone to Jol. They are processing applications and they can't see yours.

Send a email to jol@direct4wd.com.au and ask them how things are going. Or call him on 08 8952 3359
