Reading the WA RAC mag yesterday there was a piece on the above signs the way I read it is if you wish to use 2 lanes to turn right or left a sign must be on each side of the turning vehicle. Right/Wrong

Wrong

Firstly they may only be fitted on rigs or vehicles over 7.5m long.

So a 4wd and a trailer would generally comply.
They must be made of certain material and certain dimensions.
Home made ones are not acceptable

The rules are herehttps://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/vsb_12.pdf

Ignore the top part regarding weights and sizes and go to the bottom of the article

Also this onehttp://www.towingguide.com.au/content/rear_marking_plates.html

A search on almost any vanning forum will turn up a weeks reading about them

And you cannot use them as an excuse to deliberately cut corners unnecessarily. You often see this - plenty of room but still cut corners.

Mate,
you can just have one approved sign on the back of your trailer/caravan. The approved signs are different due to the many configurations of trailers. For example a car transporter/ skeletal and logging trailers and caravans as one size doesn't fit all.

On occasion with a small rig it may require 2 lanes when turning left from a 2 lane road into a narrow 1 lane road, then you may have to straddle.

Here is the relevant standard and you can scroll down to the installation requirements.

Which is the one I posted above.

You must also use the approved one which has a makers name and approval numbers on it. There is also a large strip with the words on it not shown in the standard

TomH,
they look different to me but I might have to put my glasses on.

I didn't realise it was a competition.

TomH, your link did not work. Insert links using the "Insert Link" under the text box otherwise longer links will not work in full as a hyperlink. S

You are correct in adding that it must have right printing on it. Some sold on eBay do not have this. I got the correct ones from an eBay stockist.
