I have had poor reception on my OME stereo and changed it to a combination DVD,GPS, Bluetooth etc etc unit.
A small improvement only.
My Prado, with the aerial on the rear window glass, has a booster built in and it gets really good reception. I tried to get one but the wiring is pretty complex!
I have been looking for boosters but the Ebay ones are useless (tried one) and even the Radio Shops do not seem to know whats available.
Has anyone had the same problem and found a genuine booster that really works?

Hi Bill,
As you say that the Prado "gets really good reception" I take it that this application is for another vehicle.
An important factor with any radio is get a good RF input signal and this can only be achieved with an appropriate antenna and cabling. If the antenna is not delivering a good signal then adding a 'booster' will only amplify the RF noise as
well as the wanted signal and the end result is no benefit.
The 'window glass' antennas can be good in metropolitan areas close to station transmitters but not adequate in the country. Other 'petite' OEM antennas are the same.
The only answer is to fit a quality antenna with matching cable.

Further to Allan's post,
check out the Mobile One website, for a multitude of aerials for AM/FM, that might suit your situation. They might not appeal to some, 'cause they look like an old 27mhz aerials, but they do work, and the "bigger is better".
You can often get similar items at Supercheap, which do seem to perform okay too.

Buzz,may be something better now but in the eighties when I was working around Moomba on a dozer ,we used a 2metre fibreglass ariel and could get
Bourke easily and at night I could get 2 PR

Hi all,
Thanks for the info.
Will have a look at aerials. Problem is that I want a replacement to look good and not too conspicuous!
Its on a Ford Focus, not an SUV.
