Submitted: Thursday, Apr 01, 2004 at 13:17

Outnabout David (SA)

Back in post 9523 Rolande asked about in car DVD's and X-box. Just read the May 2004 4WD monthly and notice a story on a guy with a GU with all the electic gear you could imagine including a DVD and playstation with small screens that can be coupled into the car audio system.

HI David,

Recently installed a dvd player and 7.5 inch screen in my 80 series gxl . Best advise is to drop into your local electronics store.
I was looking to install a fm modulator to enable the sound to be heard through the radio, but was sold a small nesa unit which plugs into the av leads from the dvd and has an areial. You then tune your radio to the appropriate channel and out comes your dvd sound.only have a standard stereo, but works fine.
Only problem I had was mounting the screen, I had to put an aluminium plate up inside the roof lining to get a good solid point to attach the screen. Can still see out the rear view mirror clearly, and I cannot see the screen when driving ( told that this may be a requiremant ?? )

Believe that if you can see the screen from the driver's seat it needs to be wired to the handbrake somehow, so that you can't watch while driving, don't know how accurate this is though
