Hi all, I have noticed that in your reference 11335 (Archived - Re problems of carriage of extra LPG Bottles). I have a 20'- 6" semi off road design caravan & I required extra LPG bottles for the long free camp runs. I have over come this problem with some bolt on brackets which attach to the drawbar RHS section of my caravan. They fit directly behind the existing bottles which came with the caravan when purchased. They sit 350 mm inside each side of the width of the caravan (EG total width of caravan is 2350mm, outside to outside of gas bottles is 1450mm). The great thing with these brackets is that when you do not require extra gas bottles they can be removed & stored away until next time. I have jumped on, pushed & shoved these brackets & they do not move. They have a lockable cover which goes over the connecting bolts eliminating theft. I am not sure of the legalities from state to state however, I believe that they will satisfy the insurers as the bottles are basically in the same position as the original bottles, a bit wider and inside the width of the caravan. I would appreciate any constructive feed back.

Sounds to me that you have checked to make sure the bottles are safe and secure. Being behind the original bottles can only be a good thing. Its really irrelevant what we think. You pay your money to an insurer and in the event of an accident , they decide the outcome. If you are really concerned...send a photo off to your insurer via en e-mail and ask the question.

Max, I believe the new standard requires gas bottles to be carried within the A frame.

The link will take you to a QLD seminar paper on the subject. QLD seminar RV forum

Thanks Jon, much appreciated, didn't know about this.
After reading it I think there will be a problem with all the vans that have 2 cylinders mounted on the drawbar as they are wider than the drawbar (A frame) at the mounted point.
Can't imagine what can be done in this instance.

You should be right Max..these regs will affect vans after a particular manufacture date...

Thanks Bigfish, I would have thought that they would have to have some form of a start by date & any unit manufactured prior to that start date would be exempt.
Just hope the law enforcements have this information & don't run a muck with it.
best regards Max C3.
