How long for Madigan Line

Hi Robin. Thanks for that. We wont be stopping at Camp 1a. Having camped at Old Andando we will simply drop n and check it out. The previous night will be at Hamilton Station because we got an invite to stay there. We have a photo taken at the cattle yard just north of their on the back of our glass kitchen splashback. Have to drop in so we will stay the night.

But for the rest it sounds just as we plan. I basically devised the plan from videos on Youtube and from a couple of old threads. Don't tell me yours is on Youtube as well. (what year)

The I got from the Central Land Council asks us to bypass Camp 2 and no permit issued for Camps 3 or 4. So we may even be one days less.

Did you go there? I think this is requirement to not go to 2, 3 and 4 is new.

Really looking forward to the drive. A second wheel carrier arrived yesterday and I will fit it this week. Even though we haven't had a flat since 1969 let's not tempt fate.

Camp 2 near the Twins mate ?
Thought all that was open, but obviously not.

I looked at this doc not long ago, pdf map of permissions needed for access, shows track crossing Colson up around the Twins not needing anything, but then it doesn't show Colson either, which is no go normally (read almost impossible without a scientific / research slant on trip).

We should be all clear of requiring permits, a narrow corridor takes us between 2 areas of Aboriginal title land just off Colson to the west.
We do pass camp 2, but believe this is ok as we will camp Madigan 1a, then to Old Andado on back to normality after the north Simpson.

You may as well get the permit. It's free !!! That was a surprise to us. If you want just go to the central land council site and fill out the form. doesn't hurt. Your choice. We haven't got a date yet. Have to wait for a relative to be okay after an operation.

Heading west to east maybe late July.

True, I read that yonks ago on the clc site.
Although all the route we do requires no permit on paper we were told some of the areas we intend passing / visiting MAY be soon on the list of verbotten places, so decided not to risk the trip.
We are very aware of what we might see out there might be significant to the locals, and not to disturb anything, even as basic as stones on the ground at locations.

As far as I can see, even Colson Tk up the where it goes into Aboriginal landholding should not require a permit, but we are only crossing it in any case to play it safe.
We aren't going to other Madigan camps apart from past 2 and possibly camping 1a, both on Andado land.

Anyway, when you get to go, enjoy your trip, should be an awesome experience.

Well, as you know our plans to come across from Geosurveys Hill changed . . .

Just thought I'd mention, we stayed at Hamilton on the way down the Ood, Tim there was looking after the place as his missus was down in adleiade.

The new cabins look good, we camped, and because it was quiet, we were allowed to swag on the lawn in front of those, use the toilet / shower block, AND the great kitchen common room !!

Awesome place, highly recommenced to anyone wanting a stay in the area.

Oh, and Tim said they haven't banned camping at Eringa (yet) . . . read this on a forum recently, maybe this one ?
I asked about this as we visited there on the way down and noticed no signs saying no camping etc . . .
He said they had a bit of a bad run a while ago with people leaving rubbish, but the big issue was some idiot chainsawed a couple of fence rails out of the heritage listed stock yards nearby, for their campfire !!

I had planned on staying at Hamilton Station. And just topping the fuel up at Mt dare this time through. Bit of a connection with the kitchen splashback. A photo O took is printed on it. hate it - love it.

I wish I could set a date. Ah well all comes to him who waits. . .

The other little thing I noticed was on the southern bank of Eringa waterhole, a large gum tree root that was exposed had a 4' section missing, cut out by a camper for firewood obviously.
Hopefully only a minority of these campers are so thoughtless, or care for anything / anyone but themselves.

We were petty happy with how clean of litter is was at the time though, couldn't see anything that was a blot on this idyllic location.

I just revisited this thread and your post on the other Forum. Yes it is remote but that's how we like it. And as far off the bitumen as possible. And we spend a lot of money on preventable maintenance on the car. Some would say more than enough. I have said that I would even go so far as to get a chopper to lift the car out if needed. And I meant it. As a similar vein in a popular song goes. "take it in - take it out".

Running later in the season may also make it a little easier. I spoke to Judy at Adria Downs and have the okay for all but 23 and 24. They are now an organic station and hence are very conscious of people screwing that status up. So you get a good and polite lecture about what you can and can't do and where you can and can't go. All good and we respect their trust. She sounds cool and we are hoping to meet her and Don.

No plan on any side trips this time as we have already been pencilled in for a return trip next year to do the Geocenter and Surveyors Hill. Both in one trip!!!

Awesome mate, sounds like you have a good plan mapped out.
I think it would be great to allow a little more time, and as mentioned previously on a thread, take that extra couple of jerries of fuel.
You will have a great trip I'm sure.
