Any mechanic worth his money can check bearings. Last had mine done at a car workshop with no probs.

Hi
For general on road use regrease bearings either annually or every second yr .This is of course dependant on how many kms u do a year . I would not leave bearings longer than every 3 years if u rarely use it . Van/trailer bearings always seem to work fairly hard .Of course when the bearings are done the brakes need inspecting /cleaned /lubed/adjusted .

Thank you asked a friend he said I should get them check every 12 months or 10,000ks or do you think they will be ok for longer as I only have a single axle van and this is our first big trip.

Hi

We don't know the history of your van or its previous trips.

However, for peace of mind I would have them checked before any big trip.

HI
As per Rowdy6032

There are many variables
Always before and after a big trip.
Always regrease after going thru water
Single axle vans typically run close to there weight limit, so this puts extra strain on the bearings . [if only running ford bearings ]

Once again depending upon usage
When the van is new onroad driving ,the first service can be at 20,000kms [2yrs ] after that every 10,000kms.This is for electric drum brakes .E brakes around town about 45,000 km life span .
