Anyone doing any towing with these? If so how is the 2.5lt motor handling the loads?

I think the poor seats will be your biggest issue Morto, I have a numb bum with in 100ks

A mate bought one second hand...40-60k on the engine..had overheating issues..had the required updates done to cooling system..
then they replaced engine under warrant..
Mitsubishi has a shipping container full of waranty engines..his was on the second container, finally after 3mnths he got his car back..
asked about the warranty on the new engine being fitted...they didny say a word.
hows that.....for leaving you with confidence..
another mate has one..no issues.
towing wise, not sure

A few in our van club, the owners seem happy. Good economy and enough power.

I had the 3.2 litre 2006 model for 7 or so years. It was a terrific vehicle, towed most of it's 190,000 ks. Not a single issue, loved it. Didn't buy a new one because of the 2.5 litre motor, can't understand why they changed.

I can give you first hand experience as I am in a caravan park tonight after towing with my month old Triton.
First of all I should state that I have previously been towing with an 80 series Landcruiser so the Triton has big boots to fill.
My triton is the GLX + a 2015 model with manual gearbox. My fuel usesge is 8.2 l per 100ks driving country roads without the van. When towing I have used 12.9 litres per 100 ks this included driving from Penrith to Cowra via Bells rd which is pretty steep in sections.
The vehicle has performed very well I am really pleased with it. I should add though that my caravan only weighs 1.3 t loaded. I am a believer that the loaded caravan should not weigh more than the tow vehicle in which case the triton is well suited to this van.
My concern before buying was if I would need to ride the clutch at all when taking off on a hill and if so would this be too much. As it turns out take offs are fine. An auto would have been my preference but the motors in the triton autos deliver 50 nm less power Which is why I went manual.
I did have one experience today when I took a wrong turn and ended up going down a steep hill that ended at a farm gate, I had to do a 3 point turn with the van on and then take off on the hill while on a gravel surface which later turned to bitumen. I was worried about the hill start on such a steep road but got started ok but couldn't go over 1000 revs. Thinking that the motor didn't have enough power I reversed and tried a second time with the same effect. So I then used low range keeping the left wheels on the grass. Later reading the handbook I found out that stability control could have been activated because of the slippage while on the gravel and this stability control regulates the motor speed preventing over reving, the book suggests turning of stability control in such cifcumstances. So I think that may have been my fault and not the vehicle.

I should also add that I mostly tow in 4th gear at 90 km per hour, at this speed the motor is doing 2400 revs per minute.

cruiser 3, do not be frightened or lazy to use low range...the loaded starts like that with revs will xxxx your clutch.

People seem afraid to use low range.

These electronic managed and injected turbo diesels don't have a lot of torque off idle like 6's and 8 cylinders, use your gearbox and transfer case.

As to the 50 nm less in the auto, the torque converter more than compensates for that in torque applications of starts etc.

Thanks for that feedback. I am still learning about my new vehicle so any information is appreciated. I am still unsure whether the Tritons inability to go over 1000 revs was due to the load or the stability control regulating the motor. It was something I had never experienced before. Never too old to learn uhh

Probably best trying to find a forum for this car.

Plenty of people give advice of vehicles that they no nothing about other than what they have heard from their best mates, fatherinlaws ex wife's, sisters nephew. This forum has a number of these people.

Yeah. Google newtriton from memory.

I test drove one when in the market for a 4WD. The seats started a back ache within 15 minutes. My back's not the best but that was a record!

I dont think, typical of dedicated forums, they all blow smoke!! Not many people knock their own rig.

I have 2 mates with tritons around 2 and 3 years old, both run great, both manuals, no problems.

So I shouldn't comment Disco tourer? They've had a good run so I feel I should tell morto.

I appreciate all the comments guys and will check out the forum.
I did drive a new Auto Triton dual cab for 1000km and it was great on fuel and the seats weren't a problem. I am just worried about power in the auto and the safety rating. At the end of the day I will get what I pay for.

I am the proud owner of a 2010 duel cab diesel Triton..
I had a Jayco 19-6 StarCraft and towed it around Australia. Twice full lap and three times half laps Triton did the job perfectly. I, in 2013 bought a new Silverline 21-65. Did the half lap. From Adelaide up the middle and around W/A. camped at Cleaverville
for two months. then made our way back to home.
Triton proved to be the perfect tug for the van and was economical as well.
Used 4 th gear most of the time because it made the 5 th gear work to hard.
( NO SORE BUMS ETC.) very comfortable ride all the time.
As soon as I've had a small operation on the tummy I will be away again this year knowing that I can do it in comfort and no worries.
JUST DON'T FORGET TO SERVICE THE TUG OFTEN.

Are you sure you can legally tow a Silverline with a Triton? I looked at a Triton when I bought my Silverline and I am sure the ball weight exceeds the Triton ball weight capacity of around 220kg.

Oops, the Tritons capacity I think is 180kg towing a weight in excess of 2500kg. The Silverline would be 2800kg and probably more loaded with water, gas and stuff.
Could cause an insurance problem in the event of an accident.

If you had bothered to look at the date of my "TRITON"
2010 Triton extended tub plus towing capacity THREE TON" The Triton previous to this was not capable of doing this. They were rated at two and half tons. but the model after and including 2010 are capable of towing this O.K. I have also added air bags to the rear springs.
