Clayton ,
how are ya ? when we did the CSR in May 05 we were the first few vehicles
through for the start of the tourist season, spinifex was up to the headlamps
so make sure you have a flywire screen to cover the front of your vehicle
very hard to clean the radiator an condenser when its clogged . I had a petrol patrol so each stop we had to check under the car for a build up around the exhaust .
had a 5lt pump bottle ,eg something you would use to spray roundup , an easy to refill
unlike a fire extinguisher .
cheers mechpete

Hi Clayton
The advice that Mechpete has given you is extremely wise. I live in the area, my wife and I have just returned to Mulan from Kunawaritji, (Well 33), via the CSR (always open to locals) and my goodness the spinifex was high, that was about two weeks ago.
Admittedly we do not do the travellers/tourist trip, so we come straight through, stopping occasionally to grab some tucker.
The whole trip was good this time, as very vehicles have been through yet, though we did fill in one deep hole, where someone got bogged and dug out.
Have a safe trip.

Hi Clayton
We were at Billiluna this afternoon, and there were three vehicles that had come through from Wiluna. They apparently had to clear their radiator grills frequently from spinifex seeds, as well as under their vehicles.
The local mob at Billiluna reckon quite a few have come through, so the main track must be good all the way. We did some alternative tracks as well, so could not comment on the entire track.

Hi Clayton, did CSR May 13. Saw no one for 4 days at start from Well 5 to 18. Yes the spinifex will clog the catalytic converter - had 2 smouldering incidents so watch it like a hawk. Check every 10 km without fail. Should be good flowers after good rains over wet season.
Are you towing? Dunes are what it's all about so be prepared for some shovelling. But if it rains then the claypans are deadly greasetraps. Visit the Canning Trek and go into "what to see" and there's pix of every well. Oh and I hope that the bucket is tied on securely at the popular CSR Well 6 (Pierre Spring)..................... W
