LED replacements

Hi All,
In the Easter Auto One catalog they are selling LED replacement globes for interior lights etc (festoon, small bayonet). I was wondering if anyone has tried them for brightness & current draw, they are quite cheap compared to the ones that you make up yourself (Jaycar kit) so I am wondering if they are up to the job. The prices vary quite a bit depending on colour & type, only interested in white myself & these were $18 for a 2 pack of festoon type (normal price $22).

I made the jaycar one up using 2 LED's for the interior light. I was mega disapointed as the light the two LED's produce is nothing compared to the incandescent bulb that was originally in there.

I rang up Jaycar and askes why it wasnt as bright. Their response was "Ohh... some other people have said that as well". Im confused as to why they would contine to sell them then. I can see the point selling the rear lights etc that use 12 or more LED's as they emmit some serious light, but the interior lights are a waste of time and money in my mind.

Did you get the hi-intensity LED's or regular? When I looked at that kit it was only the circuit board included and the LED's had to be bought separately. So you may have the wrong ones.

Then again you may have the right LED's and it's just not bright enough anyway.

The only benefit I see in getting LEDs is the low power consumption, and they have a longer service life. So, they are great in torches. Don't think this helps much in a car.

I too bought two of George's Luxeon LED's and am completely happy with them. Much whiter & brighter and everyone noticed without me saying anything to tip them off.
