Help with OziExplorer cant load maps from card on Samsung tablet

I followed your plan and it worked - yippeeeeeeee.

Only issues is that we have a lot of folders with maps and only seem to be able to add one to the file path.

I wonder if there is a way to add more or if we need to have them all in one big folder before loaded onto SD card?

I don't know android version so you will have to play" a bit to do this.

Reindex the maps if you haven't done it already. That may help.

Is there a "parent" folder? If so that should be all that you need to add.

I can only explain by using the PC version. I hope that is okay. The processing is the same for all versions. Just how to make it happen can be different. On the PC it's on the Map menu.

Reindexing is getting Ozi to run through all the map files that you told it about and making a "list" of which ones cover which area. It takes a while, on ours in the car it takes about a minute. That means it can very qiockly know which map to display for you instead of searching each time it ha to "go to the next" map. Clear as mud!! Hope not.

In other it makes an index, list of pointers to the maps. Yopu should do it each time you change the maps (add or delete one).

On the PC version it is listed as Reindex maps on the Map menu.

Yes Annie, put all your maps into one folder and point the file path to that folder.

There isn't any real need to put all maps in the one folder. If you do something like I have then it makes it easy to maintain the files for updates etc.

Then you just the top folder in you configuration.

I have this map images folder structure.

Maps
--------Australia 250K
--------Australia Towns and Cities
--------Festy
--------Hema
--------Misc

Thus I only need the one path in the Map Images configuration. That path is:
C:\4WD\Oziexplorer\Ozi PC version\Maps

No need to point to all folders.

Can't recall if Ozi for Android has a re-index control. But Ozi re-indexes every time it is started, so just get your folder organised per the above from Phil (mine's the same :-)) then close and re-open Ozi.

From a developers point of view, that would be a disadvantage as it would slow the start up session. 39 gb to reindex each start is a large waste. Memory is reliable enough not to do that. I have the same structure on the SD card for the car. I don't think that it reindexes at startup.

Phil, folders work well on the desktop, but wont work with Ozi Android. Ozi Android requires all map files in the one folder.

I have my maps in folders, like Phil's structure. It is a direct copy of the Ozi folder structure on my PC. Ozi for Android finds maps as required. It works perfectly. My device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (model P6800) - an oldie but a goodie, running Android 4.0.4.

I just had a look and you CAN re-index maps from the menu.

Go to Main Menu/Operation/Map/Index Maps.

I am running a new Samsung Galaxy Note S with Android Lollipop.
It refuses to see any maps in folders. I just tried it again, and I cannot see any maps. Put the maps back in the root folder & it works fine.

Annie is most likely totally confused by now. At least mine are the same for both the WinCE unit and the PC. Exctly the same file structure for both.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for advice. Greatly appreciated. We have the mapping running at least it seems to be working! But I do have another question but I will post it on a new thread!
It was all a little confusing but we seemed to fluke something and it started working as I went into Main Menu - general settings -then set Map File Path as /storage/extSdcard and all od a sudden we could see the maps!
