Comment: Anne Beadell Highway

Hi Rod......Did it three weeks ago, and it was a pretty damp then, but should have dried out by now,----it lived up to it's infamous name, and the teeth were rattling at times.---( most of the time actually)--I've also got quite a few "pinstripes" on the sides of cruiser as a reminder of the trip......I would allow 7-8 days to complete ---Coober Pedy to Laverton.....

You will find that the Anne Beadell Highway does not change much from year to year.

Travelling from Laverton, you will have a generally great road all the way through to Ilkurlka, where it is your only chance to refuel your vehicle and gave a great Hot Donkey fed shower.

From Ilkurlka the track will deteriorate and the further east you travel the worst it gets, and from my personal thoughts, get quite bad from Emu on.

I hope you have done your research for the trip, as there is quite a lot out there to see, and many people miss a lot. As a bare minimum, work on seven days, and longer is even better. The biggest secret to a great drive is to stop regularly, keep your tyre pressures down lower (I usually run 18 - 20 psi) to act as a shock absorber and you will be in for a great trip. Also make sure that you take the small detour to the actual Voakes Hill, and not to be confused with Voakes Hill Corner.
