Thanks, Slow.

Saw this last night on Facebook, and the 4wd driver said first that he was avoiding a white post on the road. Why he had to drop off the bitumen, instead of straddling the post has got me, but he survived........though only just.

Would've put a dampener on the holiday.

Bob,
it would have been far cheaper to have mowed the post down but I guess it is easier to say after the fact. Pity he didn't stay up on the black top.

Definitely ruined the truckies day and there will be down time for that truck and the driver.

Bob,
just looked at your photo. Love the tom thumb snaffle bit and the tartan saddle cloth.

From what I heard the tradie was moving across to give the truck more room.
Didn't hear anything about white posts etc >!

Yeah, looks like a tradie trailer alright. Probably as heavy as buggery, and not to hard to upset everything with too much speed, as Phil said.

Video said time is 13.05, so wondered if Pradoman mightn't have had a little "nanna nap", woke up when the vehicle dropped onto the gravel, and jerked it back when he saw where he was, and what was ahead of him.

Been done plenty of times before, and usually follow the same scenario. Across road, then back again, if they don't roll as they try to get back to the left, where they usually DO roll.......except this time this time Max was thundering along at full noise, and they were both in the wrong place at the right time.

Just lucky no one was hurt. Wonder what he put on the insurance claim form? "After I was a Richard Cranium, a truck hit me and.............."

Slow,

Too bad I can't remember that old fellars name, he was a good'un. We always used those snaffle bits. The tartan(wonder what clan?) saddle pad was almost mandatory as it was often very humid, and a lot of fast work, so they sweated profusely. Usually helped to prevent saddle sores, I found. Great days, good memories, and happy to leave it as memories. Don't think the body would handle it these days.

Noggins,

9 News has edited some footage out, including mention of white posts.

Check out Facebook, the full video is on there.

Camper trailer or trade trailer....looks like a step ladder on the roof. Maybe he was a very short holiday maker?

Guy with the Prado was driving too fast for that road. Appears to me he lost control when he hit the brakes with two wheels on the dirt. Drive to the conditions

Yeah - my gut feeling too Phil. Experience dictates that if you're going to wash off speed, do it on the tar before pulling over, then if you need to correct wobble you can always speed up a bit. Applying brakes on the dirt is just going to cause all sort arse end issues......

It would be interesting to know for sure but the way I saw it, the fourby was riding the dirt to give the truck room, then he saw the white posts that frequently mean "Culvert", hence the reason he whipped it back onto the bitumin. Not just a white post but a culvert, it would have seriously upset the equilibrium hitting a drain at that observed speed. Hard to say what would have been the right course of remedial action other than not to have got into that situation in the first place.
Just my thoughts,
Col

Watched it on Nine news and the audio of the two drivers was that the truckie asked the Prado driver what did he do that for and the answer was "There was a white pole there"

If you watch the video you can see him drop off and haul it back just before the white marker post, Would have been cheaper to hit it. Apparently acording to what was said on the item there was $55,000 of damage to the truck. . But as he said " At least no one died"

When you see the full video on FB the white posts do not mark any culverts and appear to be pretty close to the edge of the road. Full video shows another car passing with no problems.

The white posts and culvert were the least of this Tosser's problems. Start with problem number one, drifting over the middle of the road and into the oncoming path was his first problem.

Anyone with any nounce knows that if you see a vehicle coming towards you on what is really a narrow road...you slow down considerably and move slightly to the left to allow vehicle to pass safely AND by doing this you may also save a windscreen with the speed you have pulled back. Hopefully the other vehicle does the same An extra 30 seconds down time is of no consequence.
VERY lucky no one seriously hurt..

No good calling the car driver names or abusing him. Obviously inexperienced and I agree, many culverts do have the white posts as markers. Just another reason to slow down.

A Tosser, Richard Cranium, call him what you want. But the spray he gave the truck driver, video evidence is definantly on the side of the truck driver. I'd love to be his insurer, particularly now that the video from the truck driver has made national tv.
A bit like the clown that tried to pull a swifty on me. When his insurer got onto me and I provided them with my evidence, they said thanks very much sir, I see we won't be bothering you again.

I'm surprised the "you must drive at the speed limit or you are holding me up" brigade haven't had a word or two.

Not sure what others do but, when I see a truck coming I slow right down, pull as far to the left as possible, even if going onto the gravel is an option and let the truck have the road.
First of all he's a lot bigger than me and secondly he is not as likely to throw rocks at my windscreen if he has the bitumen.

In that particular scenario however, it appears both the trucky and the 4WD had ample room in their lanes.

Cheers

I'll bite, on a road like that I don't think the " hold me up brigade " would be bothered by the sometimes " erratic " driving style of a particular genre . Long straights = plenty of opportunities to get past pop safely !
Sorry ol'fella . sadly you miss the point ( there were even photos attached to one thread highlighting the major bugbears ) . Most people I think have issue with the " erratic " behaviour on more mainstream hwys that are of normal width and heavily policed .

cheers

the evidence is there the statements have been made by the truckie and the driver two lanes enough room for both if travelling at the correct speed posted for that stretch of road, and from what I have observed from the videos, the prang should not have happened, but it did. thanks for sharing
